NLM loading can be almost instant to around 20-25 seconds - obviously frustrating.

I admit to knowing almost zilch about computers, so am hoping someone can explain what this means:

when I am waiting 20+ seconds, I get a screen message telling me that NLM is not respondiong due to a long-running script.

Anyone any ideas what this means in plain English?

Thank you.

I have visited the site regularly during the last 48 hours and have not had any noticeable problems.

Maybe your slow problems are else where?

There is no one answer to this, it could be any of a number of different things. It's usually an Internet Explorer problem.

It could be a rogue advert on the site trying to load (unlikely)
It could be caused by browser add ons not responding properly (probably the most likely)
It could be caused by corrupt Windows system files on your PC or laptop
It could be caused by malware or virus

Your best bet is visit Microsoft support site and search for the problem as it applies to whichever browser version you have. There is a tool here that is supposed to work, I have never used it https://support.microsoft.com/...nce_and_safety/en-us it seems to disable any dodgy add ons and resets all the defaults. A long term solution would be to download a decent browser - one that isn't IE.

HI Paul,

No response time problems for us Southerners!

All East Of Scotland and South of Scotland games now postponed and deleted from NLM.

It seems a bit better now.

Just been out nailing tarpaulin onto summerhouse (LOL) roof. If the floods don't get the matches, the wind will. I don't think you'll be bothered much by Scottish results today.

There are no problems that I can see with either the site or the server load.

I just tested the forum on pingdom http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/

The main index page loaded in 1.55 seconds and was "faster than 80% of all sites tested".

If you are still having a problem it could be a local area network issue and the best way to check that is to run a traceroute which shows the path your page request makes from you to the server in Canada and indicates where there is a holdup.

I had problems at 11.45 am today and was unable to get into parts of the site with an error message constantly coming up.

I was having issues last night. Last time this happened there was something about Chinese hackers or similar if I recall.

There are no server issues and no Chinese hackers. The server load is low and has been for some time. There are no peaks in traffic other than normal and the CPU usage is minimal, averaging around 40%.

If anyone is having connectivity problems then run a traceroute as I suggested above, just google how if you're unsure as it varies with different versions of Windows or if you have a Mac. Sorry, but I really can't do anything with "I am having problems" or "I got an error message".

Thanks

Today I have experienced for the first time on this site a notice from my anti virus software informing me that it has "blocked a pop up from nonleaguematters.co.uk".

There are no popups on this site.

You either have some malware installed, the adserver tried to load a rogue ad (which will be quickly removed) or you use Norton which frequently displays messages like that to try and prove to you it is actually doing something.

It's happening again. Sometimes it's a blank screen, sometimes it goes through and sometimes there's this message:

"Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."

In the tab it says it's a 503 error.

A 503 error usually means there is some maintenance work going on server side, probably some sort of software upgrade.

I don't get notified in advance of this, that only happens if the server is going to be taken offline completely even if just for a couple of minutes.

Normally maintenance work is done in the middle of the night so hardly anyone notices. As the server is in Canada their middle of the night is our mid morning so it sounds like they got the timing wrong.

I'm going to lock this thread now as any casual visitor seeing 'Slow Loading' and seeing over 100 posts would assume that the site was beset with problems. They probably wouldn't realise that the thread was started over a year ago when we had the Chinese problem.

If you have problems feel free to start a new thread but remember that the internet is a complicated beast and a problem doesn't mean it's a site problem. NLM runs on a dedicated managed server hosted by a Company that I have used for 13 years. This is no small part down to the donations and subscriptions I get, I couldn't host it there otherwise (Thanks) If it's a site problem they will know about it and will be fixing it even as you type.

Thanks
