That's what UEFA says. If you can't believe UEFA, who can you believe?

Well, Celtic have already lost twice this season and are still in the Europa League, only to be joined by another eight set of losers if they are still there in January.
What a joke of a competition.

Celtic have only lost once - against Maribor. They beat Legia 1-4 3-0 (victory on away goals)

Is it any more of a joke than the "Champions' League" in which many entrants aren't champions?

Celtic have lost 3 times in Europe on the field of play, 4-1 and 2-0 to Legia and 1-0 against Maribor still you can hold on to the fact that they have won more European games than Rangers this season Wink

I'd certainly say yes in as far as when it comes to parachuting in another eight teams halfway through the competition. It's like letting Usain Bolt enter the marathon when the race gets back to the stadium.
The joke in the Champions League is its' name more than its' format.

In the FA Cup teams enter 2/3rds the way through the competition. What's the difference?

They've lost in other competitions, just as entrants to the Europa Cup have lost in other competitions. None have lost in the competitions they are entering. No difference at all.

There's a big difference - the Europa league is partly a repechage event for clubs knocked out of a superior competition.

It's not really a repechage. A repechage would be used to reinstate teams into a competition they would otherwise be eliminated from. The Europa Cup is a totally different competition from the one they have been eliminated from.

Exemption to the Group stages of the Europa League is a reward for reaching the final qualifying round of the Champions' League. Just as exemption to the 3rd Round of the FA Cup is a reward for being in the top two divisions.
