Just for your information.... I've had to increase the size of the ad banner on the site. I can't sell any of the old 468 X 60 pixels banners as everyone uses the size of 728 X 90 pixels these days. Currently there are only two banners showing, the advertise here one and the one for my own PBM game. I have signed up with an Ad Switch programme which basically means that I can run my own advertising but they will display their ads if they can sell them for more than I can get through my own ad programme. It's like a win win for us both. The point I want to make is that all of these ads are CPM in other words the site gets paid for displaying them. It doesn't matter if they get clicked on, that's just a bonus for the advertisers. So if you are like the guy who proudly mentioned the Ad Blocker programme he is running could you please add the site to the list of exceptions, you don't have to click on them just display them to help with site funds. Thanks

As a follow up to this, I will shortly be making a final change to the ad display by moving the ad space that is at the top of the forum (in between the two menus) to the side of the forum. It's simply easier to sell that space than it is in it's current position. Nobody particularly likes ads on the site or on any site but without them and without the donations I simply wouldn't be able to keep NLM online so I hope everyone understands why they are there. As mentioned above, the site gets paid simply for displaying them. There are no further changes planned. There will be no pop ups or those annoying auto-run video ads that are infesting other places.

I understand the need for the adverts but its causing a bit of a problem when viewing on a mobile. The thread titles are now compacted into a smaller box, therefore it pushes them onto two lines, widening all the boxes and making the whole thing a bit of a mess. Also, the page number listings are too pushed onto two lines meaning I've now twice ended up clicking to the last page instead of number 2. Main menu is fine so I'm not sure if there is a way to make it better.

See you have made use of the blank ad space on the right to return the forum to its former width, problem solved, many thanks.

I have no problem on my iPhone 5s. However I made a rare foray tonight on my laptop and the site certainly suffers a delay in loading pages. I rarely use this site on my laptop but there is a noticeable delay, but understaand the need for generating revenue. Is a mobile friendly version available?

Just to let you know that the top banner a few minutes ago was on a repeating loop with a loud voice saying "gooooaaalllll". I noticed a play arrow in the middle before exiting sharply. At the time I was not logged on.

Yes, seconded and ditto. I'm not sure which was more disconcerting - the unexpected voice, or the portrait in the ad of Gary Lineker ....

Clicking on this thread showed me a banner, asking me to study Computing at DMU. That's exactly what I did 6 years ago!

I HATE ads with audio and I had no idea they were being shown here, I've not had any myself. I can't block ads however the ad server FAQs says: Can I block certain types of advert/certain verticals? You are not able to block certain types of advert or verticals, but you are able to block certain URLs. So you can send us a list of URLs and we will make sure these don’t appear as adverts So if you see (or rather hear) any more of these let me have the details and we will get them kicked off.

I have my volume on mute as I rarely need to listen to anything at home. I have mute at work but that's just in case of any unwanted surprises.

I am seeing an advert for kitchens at the bottom of my screen. I thought kitchen ads were banned from this site?

Took loads of getting used to did all this dropping down when using tablet/phone with constantly hitting links that I have no interest in but I'm used to it all now. It is a nuisance but if these people are paying to keep this site going then its a small price to pay.

The dropping down to load the advert' causes me to hit wrong links so I have to try and remember to pause each time. It is a nuisance but if it keeps the site going so be it.

I access the site on a laptop with high speed cable broadband so the ad that causes the drop down loads almost instantly and doesn't really bother me. I would imagine if you are out and about using wi fi hotspots on a mobile you are getting slower speeds and it could be annoying unless you pause for it to load. As I said elsewhere these ads will more than pay the shortfall in site costs for this year and even better there should be no need to get the begging bowl out in January so I'm sure 99% of members will be happy that the site future is secure in return for the slight inconvenience.

It's something I see more often when I'm out and about, accessing the site via wifi. To be honest it's just a little bit of sloppy coding when creating the site, not too big of a deal.

I have put that ad into its own table. It means that there will be space that won't always be filled as the ads that appear there are of various sizes so I have had to set the space at the biggest that can appear. It isn't too neat but should stop the content jumping downwards for the meantime until I look for a better solution. Let me know if it's better. Thanks
