Congratulations must go to The Scunthorpe Utd manager who set a new football league record which stood for 125 years after going 24 games unbeaten in their first managerial role following the draw with Wycombe Wanderers this weekend. Quite an achievement and hope the directors there won't start hitting the panic button if he might eventually go through a rough patch at some point in the future.

Is it a world record?
Has something similar been done in non-league, that anyone knows of?

The one that springs to mind instantly is the first season of the FL when Preston went unbeaten, presumably for 22 games (12 teams). I don't know how long they went unbeaten the following season. Either it was just one or two games, or maybe they changed manager somehwere along the line, or it doesn't count technically as the manager was already in charge before then so it wasn't a "debut" run, even if it was his first 25 (or more, or fewer) "League" games.

Answers, anybody?

PNE lost the second match of the 1889/90 season, so that would end their undefeated run at 23 games. Presumably this is the streak referred to as being broken considering it was 125 years ago.

Did Preston even hava a "manager" then anyway?
