Sign of the times, Mick, sadly.

Just thinking back to my patch alone, in the 1980s we had 10 well-established clubs in the Merseyside area in the Pyramid. Six of these have since moved from their traditional homes for various reasons, ending up with four falling away altogether (Bootle, South Liverpool, Kirkby and now Formby) and a fifth currently struggling to hang on in there (St Helens). Only Skelmersdale seem to have made a success of it, though it's good that Bootle and, to a lesser extent, South, have managed to rise again from the ashes.

The remaining four - Southport, Marine, Burscough and Prescot Cables - have all retained their homes and pretty much maintained their level, albeit with some scares along the way. Though with the clock presumably still ticking on the future of Burscough's Victoria Park, more upheaval can't be ruled out.

A pattern replicated across much of the country, particularly around the big cities where the land can be put to other (...more profitable) uses.

What happened to Knowsley United - did they change their name? Can't remember!

Knowsley United were Kirkby Town after a name change - I guess in an ultimately vain attempt to draw support from a wider area.

Kirkby Town became Knowsley United after they moved from Simonswood Lane (now the site of Liverpool's academy) to Huyton RLFC's old Alt Park ground. Knowsley had some fleeting success for a few years from the late 80s, including a run to the FA Cup 1st round and promotions through the NWCFL right up to the Northern Premier, but packed it all in in 1997. Not sure why, though the area was as rough as hell (...though similar to Kirkby, in many ways!) and, even with success, they never attracted much support in Huyton.

The problem with Formby is that Formby residents have been forced to move away because of the housing prices whilst people who have no connection with the town have moved in and they certainly have no interest in the football club. There's a leisure centre where the Brows Lane pitch used to be but it's still surrounded by a lot of green space, combining a leisure centre with the football club would have made more sense and this mirrors the setup at Litherland Sports Park, home of Litherland Remyca, where they also have an athletics track.

My grandad was a trainer at the club a long time ago and I helped out there with my mates and brothers when Chris Welsh was chairman. I remember him giving us a lift to an away match at Leyland Motors where we got thrown out of the cowshed for making too much noise. Another time we got a bus from the old Ribble bus station in Southport for a FA Cup tie at Chorley losing 5-0. Every time I walked past the ground I'd peer through the little round holes in the wooden fence, great memories, but sadly no more.

Last Match: Sunday 15th November
FA Vase 2nd Round
Coventry United 1 Uttoxeter Town 2

New for next season. Three up and three down between Premier Division and Division One. Third promotion place to be decided by play-offs for teams finishing 3rd to 6th.

A good thing? i think so and hopefully more will give it a go providing of course all clubs in play-off spots have grounds that are up to step 5 standard or actually want to go up or it could be farcial.

The tweets about this were coming through yesterday evening during the latter stages of the England match on TV. I was wondering why the clash. Then I remembered - the press officer who was posting the tweets is a Scot! Laugh

So maybe we can expect the announcement of the full constitution of Premier Division and Division One, which will be confirmed on 14th June, to be made during some key moment of the England Italy game, later in the evening.

Why have Cammell Laird been relegated 2 divisions? Or is this considered to be a new team?

No sign of Stockport Town in the Cheshire League consitution so they must be headed for the Manchester League.

Last ground visited(update requested by Spud): Wellington . New grounds 18/19: 38

Dropping two divisions was Cammell Laird's choice. They didn't even finish the season in a relegation spot, or even in the bottom half of the table.

And Lairds asked to be relegated when their committee resigned due to some unspecified issue concerning ownership of the club. I'm not aware of anything sinister behind that, but the issue seems to have been resolved which, at least in part, has resulted in a new entity, Cammell Laird 1907.

Reports from the AGM, currently in progress, are that the constitution is not yet set in stone.
1. Stockport Town are appealing, and so this awaits decision from FA.
2. Position regarding Northwich Flixton Villa is unclear.

I hope Northwich Flixton Villa survive.

Enjoyed my visits to Flixton, the club are so secretive, just trying to find the teamsheets is enough of a task. Bit like having a part of North Korea right on your doorstep.

They ground share with Northwich Vics who are keeping a low profile too. Vics forum has been down for cleanup & maintenance for more than five weeks!

Interesting to notice that in the first two weeks of the season, no games have been arranged for NFV.
