A resent survey of High Street retailers by Which?...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48433692

...gives some predictable results.

They name WH Smiths as the worst retailer in the UK, with Homebase, New Look, the woeful Sports Direct and Clinton Cards not far behind.

They name the best UK High Street retailer as Richer Sounds (again, unsurprisingly). Others that are high up in their rankings include John Lewis, Screwfix, Waterstones and Apple.

The Yorkshire Linen Company has closed it's nineteen remaining stores across the north of England. They had previously closed 8 (including Scarborough) in February, in an effort to keep the business going.

William Hill biting the bullet on the High Street anyway with the closure of 700 shops. I guess more and more people are using the app & website than the unprofitable betting shops.

Northwood, Threave Rovers, Arsenal, Rangers (the real ones, NOT qpr),Watford, Rochdale, queen of the south and a few others.

William Hill are blaming the government for the job losses, stating it was the reduced limit on instant gaming machines to be the reason for the closures, but as you say, shops aren't profitable anymore with gamblers preferring play online.

That will hit all the bookies who have the machines, not just William Hill, I haven't heard of Labrokes, Coral , or any of the other bookies have wholesale closures (yet). In my opinion that excuse is just looking to pass the buck on to someone else.
