So Carlisle United and fans are forced to travel all the way to Essex for Friday night game all because it clashes with another fixture 18 miles away.Absolute madnessFrown

This excerpt is from a BBC article in 2009 which shows how fixtures can be affected by greater distances than that:

'For reasons of revenue Southend request that they do not play at home on the same day as West Ham as they believe it impacts upon their attendance. Southend, though, are in Essex, as are Colchester, so they cannot play together on the same weekend. Colchester share stewards with Ipswich so those two clubs also request they do not play home games on the same weekend. Transport links dictate Ipswich and Norwich do not play together on the same weekend either. In other words, when West Ham play at home can have an impact on when a club as far away as Norwich (108.8 miles) play their home fixtures.'

Blades v Crawley moved to Friday night, Oct. 4th) because for the 2nd year running fixture list as Blades and Wendy's at home on same day. South Yorkshire police apparently cannot cope with the expected influx of Crawley fans.

Re: [IAN S] FL fixture changes [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Two things

As alluded to earlier, isn't club A allowed to request that its home games do not coincide with those of club B? In the case of the Sheffield clubs (as well as Nottingham, Bristol and numerous other "neighbours"), I'd have thought mere common sense would have told the fixture planners that.

Secondly, don't clubs have the option to request being away if a home game is likely to clash with a local and/or major event? Newport must have known about the rugby matches but even if not, they're more likely to impact on Cardiff (although I suspect any home games for Cardiff would be moved anyway for SKY). I don't think Reading were ever allowed to play at home on August BHM because of the Reading Festival and were there similar restrictions placed on "resort" clubs (Blackpool, Bournemouth, Brighton, Southend and Torquay)?

BBC / FL sites list most, if not all, fixture changes (although not Oldham v. Bradford City) and it is noticeable that Wigan have an unusually large number of Sunday fixtures - both home and away - up to Xmas.

Changes from Saturday 16th November

Bradford City v Coventry now Sunday 17th November 3.30pm

Walsall v Peterborough United Monday 18th November 7.45pm MadMadMadMadMad

Both games moved for SKY TV coverage although if Walsall or Peterborough have an FA Cup replay then it will be moved back to the Saturday as an as yet unspecified time.

So one of the easiest grounds to do on the train now has to been done in the car on a Monday night, thanks SKY!!

So Walsall have no more Saturday games then? Surely it's a bonus midweek tick

Yep it is if you've not done Walsall and live locally but I've already ticked it and am going to watch the game rather than tick the ground. Walsall is a lot easier to get to from Basingstoke at 3pm on a Saturday than 7.45pm on a Monday night

This is taking the p***!! I'd booked a match ticket and hotel accommodation to go to this game on the Friday (thus completing the 92 for the first time in years), but moving it to the Monday means I can't go, and I'll lose the money for the hotel. Seriously hacked off with this.

Thanks but I've bitten the bullet and rearranged my hotel (and holidays) for the Monday night. Lost the money for the original booking, but I just want to get B&HA off my list. Then I can concentrate on real football Wink

Our H game vs the 'Fakies' at the Madejski on Sat Nov 9th, has been brought forward to a 12:15 KO for Sk(h)y(pe).

Might get to a 'local double' if I can escape the hordes afterwards - very limited range - depends when I can get back to the motor. Smile
