As we are so much more special than everyone else, shouldn't there be a special sub-forum on here for Yorkshiremen ?

Spotted on a blog today:-

"Iíve seen numerous tweets from excited Tykes extolling Yorkshire athletes and imagining where Yorkshire alone would rank in the medal table. The countyís athletes have done amazingly well; congratulations to them all.

And yet take a look at the map above, from the Ordnance Survey (crown copyright etc etc). Thereís a medal-less gap in the middle which roughly equates to the Pennines. Both sides of that gap have done well, havenít they? Itís just that one side doesnít feel the need to trap on about it like Geoffrey Boycott after one too many rhubarb ciders."

It's amazing how this Yorkshire nonsense has spread - probably starting on Twitter.People repeat it endlessly, without ever stopping to check the facts. Even those who should know better, like TV, radio and newspapers have been guilty.

There's nowt special about Yorkshire's Olympic achievements. You could take any population of 5 million and they will have done as well or better .... Scotland for example.

Not at all. I'm just making an observation on how the lazy media in the UK make a story out of a non-story and how so many people fall for it unquestioningly.

It probably started as a bit of a joke and it's developed legs Ė so what if it's not entirely accurate. Get in the spirit and stop taking things so literally.

Don't think anyone on here's fallen for it unquestioningly, just a few folk having a bit of banter and that's all.

We've made such a big thing of it because we like to look after our own in Yorkshire.
It is funny how some people can take even this seriously Smile

Re: [robgrillo] Independent Yorkshire [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

at the time the claim was first made about Yorkshire, it was countered by one saying that the "West Country" had won even more medals than Yorkshire had!

I have no idea how "West Country" was defined let alone whether this was true, nor am I planning on researching it.....

As I was born in Yorkshire I am however doubly pleased!SmileWink
