The Olympic Torch Can't Post or Reply Privately

Having reluctantly got up at 5am this morning to take my six year old grandaughter to see the torch in Maidstone I was somewhat lost for words, just what is the point? Obviously I'm missing something as everybody else there seemed to enjoy the occasion.

High drama later in the day at Gravesend when a chav tried to snatch the torch:

Torch due to go past the top of my works road in Hayes on Tuesday, Was told our firm has got some company flags to wave as it goes past. Guvner put out when told ` Yer having a F***ing Laugh` Sly - I have no interest in seeing the torch whatsoever, more concerned that it will have all passed out the way so I can get home without too much traffic.

Olympic torch relay, what a load of rubbish it is, made up by the Nazis. How many people give two fs about the Olympics? I really could not care any less and I have no desire to see any part of it whatsoever.

So was Fanta. I wouldn't have a go at people enjoying a glass of it just because of its history though.

The torch went past my road on the 2nd day of the 'relay'. Absolutely packed all along the main road. I have to say I enjoyed it immensely, as I probably will never see it again and got some great snaps, especially as I was at the change over point for the bearers.

Re: [paignton-nick] The Olympic Torch [In reply to] Can't Post or

Went near my house two days running, both times 800 yards away. Can't remember saaing anyone walking passed my house going to have gander, presume they would have been dressed head to foot in Union Flags Cool. Only glad it did not actually come up my road as I have to pick up enough litter as it is. It could have come up my road as I live in the same road as the Iffley Road Running track and of course it visited there and Roger Bannister did a few yards with it.

Big outcry in local paper about it, people of Banbury not getting a view of it but it spent to much time in Blackbird Leys

Re: [UKPunk] The Olympic Torch [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I saw it in Maidenhead a couple of weeks ago. The young lady carrying it could not even be bothered to run (yes she was able-bodied, I'm not making an un-pc gaffe there). Highlight, as we were near a railway bridge, was the car transporter that had somehow come through about 10 mins before the torch was due and had to reverse back up the hill as unable to get under the bridge. Just got out of the way in time but the subject of much hilarity. The motorbike cops were all having a good laugh and it was a nice atmosphere. Samsung and Coca-Cola sponsor trucks were a PITA. I'm glad I went, in the same way that I'm glad I'm going to Cardiff next Thursday, but I think both will have an element of "mehhh" about them. Even with the better-than-expected Euros, Wimbledon and Tour de France and the Olympics themselves, Maidstone's new ground overshadows all that in my book!

Passed my way today but I couldn't find the enthusiasm to go and see it so I watched it pass along the road using the live location map on the 2012 website and waved at the computer screen Tongue

I think the problem is, it's A torch. not THE torch! Crazy
Watching someone who lists their home as Poland walking a few hundred yards with one of 8000 odd bits of metal is hardly the most significant and exciting moment of the whole event.
Crazy

Torch went right past my parents house a few weeks back, I wasn't bothered but the grandkids and my mum and dad all wanted to see it so went down with my daughter in law, my wife and her sister.

Couldn't believe how many people were lining the streets and there was a great atmosphere, so I'm glad we made the effort.

Far too much commercialism preceding the torchbearer, but an excuse for a lovely family get together that probably won't ever happen again.

Just got to sort out when and which Football games are on TV. None at any grounds in Yorkshire and I would not want to go through Airport type checks to watch anyway.

On the Sky Platform, each sport apparently has a channel to itself (from 450 upwards) so in theory at least every time there is a match being played, it should be shown.

Apparently, the Culture Secretary has removed his lips from Rupert Murdoch's backside long enough to let slip that in the long term the Olympics may well move from free-to-air to pay-per-view. Frown
