Bremen, Hamburg and Schwerin 24-26 Aug Can't Post or Reply Privately

Hi guys,

Anyone got any suggestions for this trip? I'm flying to Bremen in the early hours of the 24th, probably doing a brewery tour at some point and hoping to find a match to see in the evening.

On the Saturday we get the train to Hamburg and visit Miniatur Wunderland (again - can never get enough of it!!!) and then we could go to HSV to see them before but not only have I been to the ground before, I've seen the very same fixture before, so I'm keen to find something else. We end up in Schwerin, but I don't think we can make the 2pm kick off for the SC Schwerin game.

On the Sunday I suspect we'll be sight seeing but if anyone has any other suggestions I'm game.

This is just a request for ideas - I have quite a few myself but the people coming, although not remotely ground hoppers, seem to find such activities good fun so a good opportunity for brainwashing innocent souls...

Cheers in advance!

Victoria Hamburg are at home on the Saturday in Regionalliga Nord. Stadion Hoheluft is worth a visit for the 1920s-vintage main stand.

The fixtures for the local leagues will soon be out. You'd be lucky if there's a game on Friday evening in the Bremenliga though. There usually are a couple of games on Fridays in the Hamburgliga.

Once fixtures are known you can find them all on the Kicker matchkalender: http://www.kicker.de/...lender_fussball.html choosing either "deutsche Ligen" or "Amateurligen" in the "Bereich" pulldown.

Hamburg Liga fixtures are on www.fussball.de: http://ergebnisdienst.fussball.de/...rg/M03S1213W031001T4

Altona 93 are at home on Friday 24th August at 7 pm. It's a great ground with a large, partly crumbling, terrace opposite the main stand. Three stops on the S1 to get to Reeperbahn if you need persuasive arguments.

Did Altona a couple of seasons ago as part of a weekend in Hamburg - a gem of a ground and we got a cracking game there too

I usually look on fussball.de but there are only 3 RLs shown on there. These come directly under DFB. Are the others listed under another association do you know?

Regionallige Bayern is found under the Bayern association. I don't know why Regionalliga Nord isn't availiable under DFB. It covers Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen and Niedersachsen but isn't under any of these associations either which would surprise me anyway. I suppose it'll appear under DFB in due course. In the meantime the schedule is available on www.kicker.de.

For football in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, www.sport-nord.de is a good site.

If you spot any midweek fixtures 6-9 August in northern Germany, please let me know! I'm in Hamburg all week and the 2.Bundesliga Monday game is in Kaiserslautern, whilst the nearest 3.liga clubs at home are Potsdam (Babelsberg) and Preussen Munster. Two and a half hours train journey each way is a very long way for a midweek game.

I can see a Bezirksliga game at TSV Holm but either it's indoor or in a cage judging from Googlemaps.

Are you looking at "Am Sportzentrum, Holm, Germany" in Google maps? Looks like a basic grass pitch with clubhouse/changing room block in bottom left corner.

Due to lots of messing around we are now going to be going to Schweriner SC vs FSV 1919 Malchin on Saturday 25 August at 2pm. Does anyone know anything about either of these? The Wiki article on the Verbandsliga MV says SSC merged with FSV Schwerin to form Eintracht Schwerin, but fussball.de lists them clearly as Schweriner SC. Can't find out from the MV Verband website.

Edit: Eintracht are in the same league so clearly are different clubs!

Finally managed to find the SSC website. Does anyone know if there you pay to see 6th tier games? It's Verbandsliga MV. Also, is there likely to be a bar? I'm kind of assuming there won't be programmes or club pins or anything.

Pay about €5. I got a programme for a Beziksliga match last season, which is lower than Verbandsliga.
Very likely to have a bar.

I was going to list all my grounds for the season, but the moderator said five lines only.

Was looking at TSV Holm von 1910 on Schulstrasse, Holm, but now I see the club organisation looks like it's in a different place than the match venue. Cheers Michael.

Another request for info for this trip:

I have not had much joy in getting a response about a tour of the Weser Stadion (probably because there are only 5 of us and they say they'll do it on request for 10 or more). Can anyone tell me if it's worth wandering out there to see it anyway and, regardless, are there are any other grounds which I might try instead?

We have settled on the German language tour of the Beck's Brewery on the basis that all we really need to understand is when it's time to drink but still have a few hours to kill in the city.

There's a full round of games in the Schleswig-Holstein Liga on Tuesday 7th and Wedensday 8th http://ergebnisdienst.fussball.de/...in/M04S1213W040001T2.

Some of the venues should be reachable by public transport from Hamburg in 1 hour or perhaps a little more I'd guess. Note that Henstedt-Ulzburg, which probably are closest to Hamburg, don't play this game at the venue listed at fussball.de but at Beckersberg-Stadion which is an athletics ground nearby.

Thanks Michael, there's a couple that whilst I could get there, require buses which stop at 7pm, so are not possible to get back from. The trains should be OK at that time though, so looks like I can choose from:
NTVR Strand
TuRa Meldorf
Preetzer TSV
FC Sylt
or Henstedt-Ulzburg - which is both the closest and the nearest to a station

All seem to have an athletics track and only FC Sylt looks like it has any cover, does anyone have any recommendations?

I haven't been at any of these but probably the best ground is FC Sylt where there is a decent-sized stand http://www.europlan-online.de/...r-stadion/verein/757.

FC Sylt is a weird one, basically a one man club bankrolled by Volker Koppelt from the island of Sylt. He fell out with the island-based Norddörfer Sylt and decided to form his own club with the intention of bringing a higher level of football to the island of Sylt. His club have never played a game on the island though! They've lived a peripatetic life playing at (at least) Fahrdorf, Felde, Kilia Kiel and now Stadion Itzehoe. From a groundhopping perspective this might be a good one to choose as Stadion Itzehoe isn't the ground of the main club in Itzehoe (they play at Driver & Bengsch Stadion which is a pretty decent ground itself) and when FC Sylt leave I don't know if any other football club will play there.

Also 2nd round of the Hamburg Pokal on Tuesday/Wednesday: http://ergebnisdienst.fussball.de/...0000VV0AG80NVUTAH2V5.

There are still many outstanding games from the 1st round being played this week hence the blank spaces.

On Wednesday there could be a double with Eintracht Fuhlsbüttel at 17.30 and Eimsbüttel at 20.00 if you can get out from Santa Fu - or in Wink! There's an interesting video, in German though, from an Eintracht Fuhlsbüttel game on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8ugKFqlYW8.
