Bilston Town 2 Penkridge Town 0 (Pre Season Friendly) played at Bentley Leisure Pavilion Att: 22

It doesn't get much better than this. Persistent rain, cold, views of distant Darlaston... and a friendly. Moderately entertaining game, with two goals in the last quarter.

Bentley Leisure Pavilion is about a quarter of a mile up the road from Bentley Youth's ground. It's basic and parking is crap. Should anyone really feel the need to go, Bilston are playing there again on Saturday.

Pre Season Friendly 7.15pm
Cray Valley (PM) 3 Dulwich Hamlet 1 att.60
@ Pitch 2, Badgers Sports Ground.
£5 admissionShocked
£1 programme, 20 pages.

Despite raining throughout the game the pitch played very well although there was standing water round the perimeter by the end.
Good game with a good pace and CV just sharper than a Dulwich side that contained a sprinkling of first teamers.
CV ahead on 22 minutes when a shot was spilled by the keeper giving an easy tap in, before they added a second a minute into the second half.
Dulwich pulled one back four minutes later, but CV put the game beyond doubt with a third on the hour.
Spent the game in the good company of The Wall and Oxford Geoff.

Yaxley 3 King's Lynn Town 3
Pre Season Friendly 7.45pm
Attendance c80

A beautiful sunny day turned into a miserable wet evening, with the rain arriving about half an hour before kick off but the football was surprisingly good with this being the first outing of the season for both teams.

Yaxley took the lead midway through the first half with a good run and excellent finish from Addie Staffieri but looked to have gifted the game to their higher division visitors with defensive gaffes either side of half time. A minute before the break a defender's air shot when trying to clear a cross resulted in a simple tap in for Jason Turner and a minute after the break a catastophically poor back pass allowed Jamie Forshaw to round the keeper and score. Ten minutes later Jamie Thurlbourne scored with a stunning chip from outside the area to give Lynn a 3-1 lead and at that point it looked as if they would run away with it. However with 15 minutes left a good passing move and another good finish from Staffieri made it 2-3 and within two minutes Yaxley levelled, Staffieri completing his hat trick with a scuffed shot from the edge of the box which the goalkeeper obligingly dived over the top of.

With both sides playing good passing football this made for a very good start to the season for me.

Posted in the right spot now, beaten to it here by APL:

Cray Valley(Paper Mills) 3, Dulwich Hamlet XI 1.
Kick off 7.30pm
Admission £5
Programme £1

Was going to be under their new lights. Pitch fully railed off now, hard standing on three sides, one of those new standard metal terrace sheds to the right, as you come through the turnstiles, & the dugouts just past them.
Opposite is one of those small identikit small stands, on the halfway line.

Unfortunately the game wasn't played on this, due to the wet weather, switched nor long before kick off, to the second pitch behind the stand, they still charged the same price to get in!

Bit of bad luck, for pitch tickers & paper chasers, who missed the unexpected opportunity to see a rare chance to see a match with a programme on it!

Oh, where were you, Ashers? Tee, hee! ;-)
