A bit belatedly, but I just bumped into his daughter who informed me of his death at 90:
Michael Noel Skivington
born Glasgow 24 December 1921
died London 2 March 2012
A centre half who lost much of his career to the Second World War, his senior career started in 1946 when he signed for Alloa Athletic where he made 22 league appearances in 1946/47, plus a memorable 3-1 victory over Hearts in the Victory Cup (although Hearts won the second leg 5-0).
He moved south and played for a number of clubs but did not establish himself at Bury, where he didn't make a first team appearance, and at Rochdale where he made one in 1947/48. He spent season 1948/49 in Ireland with Dundalk, and at the end of the season was selected for the League of Ireland against the Football League, in front of 30,000 spectators at Dalymount Park. The LoI lost 5-0, but it was a proud moment and his medal remains in the family.
Returning to England, he spent 49/50 at Leyton Orient, and was recruited by Gillingham for their return to the Football League in the summer of 1950. He made only eight appearances for Gillingham that season, and although he tried to continue his career at Brentford he was forced to retire from football in 1951 when a leg injury was mistreated.
