F.A.Cup 2012-13 Qualifying Rounds Structure Can't Post or Reply Privately

There are 598 teams competing in the first three rounds of the competition -

400 start in the Extra Preliminary Round (EP)
132 are exempted to the Preliminary Round (PR)
66 are exempted to the 1st Qualifying Round (Q1)

They have been divided in to 10 geographical zones which can loosely be labelled -

1. North-East, 2. North-West, 3. East Midlands, 4. West Midlands, 5. East,
6. Greater London, 7. Bucks/Berks/Oxon, 8. South-East, 9. South, 10. West.

The number of clubs in each zone is (EP + PR + Q1 = Total) (with the number of survivors there will be)

1. 50 + 7 + 4 = 61 (10)
2. 38 + 17 + 10 = 65 (14)
3. 30 + 11 + 5 = 46 (9)
4. 44 + 10 + 8 = 62 (12)
5. 56 + 16 + 10 = 82 (16)
6. 40 + 16 + 12 = 68 (15)
7. 26 + 13 + 1 = 40 (7)
8. 50 + 29 + 9 = 88 (18)
9. 44 + 8 + 3 = 55 (9)
10. 22 + 5 + 4 = 31 (6)

400 + 132 + 66 = 598 (116)

Therefore when looking at the draws the matches in each zone are

EP
1. 1-25
2. 26-44
3. 45-59
4. 60-81
5. 82-109
6. 110-129
7. 130-142
8. 143-167
9. 168-189
10. 190-200

PR
1. 1-16
2. 17-34
3. 35-47
4. 48-63
5. 64-85
6. 86-103
7. 104-116
8. 117-143
9. 144-158
10. 159-166

Q1
1. 1-10
2. 11-24
3. 25-33
4. 34-45
5. 46-61
6. 62-76
7. 77-83
8. 84-101
9. 102-110
10. 111-116

Without doing a full calculation, doesn't this make it more likely for a club starting in XP round from the North East to get to 2Q than an equivalent club in the South East?

Yes that could be argued as a number of stronger teams from that area are not in the higher levels of the pyramid.

Very hard to create perfectly balanced zonal groupings for the early rounds

Looking at the draw again Extra preliminary round 'Group five' 82-92 and 93-109 appear to be two groups.

Anybody else have a view.

You are correct

Group 5 can be sub-divided

EP 82-92 & 93-109
PR 64-70 & 71-85
