Geography and TV Can't Post or Reply Privately

It seems that people nowadays have no idea where anything is in their own country, the lack of knowledge about geography in Great Britain is very disappointing.
Recent repeats on Challenge TV of some very good programmes on this subject reminds me of something missing from our current programme makers obsessed with reality shows.
The programmes in question...
TREASURE HUNT and
INTERCEPTOR.
Those were the days!
Anybody watch these?

Quality! It was pretty crap, but worth a bit of a nostalgia trip on Challenge TV tonight at 5pm.

There was a story doing the rounds a while back
- it may have been apocryphal but would probably
be true in real life.

Some old slapper from Merthyr Tydfil had appeared
on the Jeremy Kyle show and on being driven back
to the Valleys, didn't have a clue as to how to get
to her home as she had never left the town before.

Bullseye is on Challenge all the time as well.

A while back, I happened to see one of those Real Crime programmes, where they found a murderer 30 years after the event thanks to DNA.

The police obtained a good likeness of him from the time of the murder as, soon after the crime, instead of keeping a low profile, this bloke went and appeared on Bullseye!!

Don't know if that episode has been/will ever be on Challenge

Seem to recall on who wants to be a Millionaire a few years ago, some blond youngest women was asked where Banbury was she was given the choice of Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Staffordshire. She said I live in Surrey and it is way up north so I will have to phone a friend, which turned out to be her Dad who gave a right telling off on air. Turned out her Gran lived very near to Banbury.

Think many people have problems working out mileage from A to B, some even do on this board Cool

These days if you live north of Stoke it seems many folk think the southcoast is 20 miles from Birmingham, and Dover to Truro is about 40 miles. Though some people living in the South East think the north starts Stokenchurch, Oxford to Birmingham is 15 miles and Birmingham to Manchester is abother 15. The FA. also seem to struggle on mileage and location as do most of the writers of letters to the Non League Paper.

I remember Treasure Hunt. Avidly used to watch it back in my school days & when Channel 4 was just a fledgling TV station. It gave a real insight to places up & down the country.Certainly opened my eyes to the fact that 'Up North' was not all dark satanic mills.Probably also helped in Geography becoming one of my favourite subjects whilst still at school.

Always good to see Anneka Rice running around the countryside in a boiler suit after clambering out of a helicopter with Kenneth Kendall relaying instructions from the competitors back in the studio.

Many a schoolboys dream would be Anneka & a chopper. I'm sure Garrincha's Dog mentioned he had a DVD with a similar title from his exstensive collection of porn.

Just watch University Challenge. If there's any question about Scotland no one has a clue and you get the most ridiculous answers.

eg Which Scottish island is served by Ardrossan? Answer: Orkney.

It's given me hours of unadultered pleasure viewing their exploits. The Brazil boys of 1970 are far superior than the modern day Spanish equivalents.Leather clad or not. I'll swap it for "The Bangkok Ladyboys Experience" that you highly recommended to me.I take it was the DVD you were talking about & not your own personal experience.
