Shhhhhh, keep this one to yourself. Can't Post or Reply Privately

Article in the Times on Freitag about Deutsche Bahn.

Look I really think Russell and other apologists should look away now, indeed anyone who hasn't travelled Chormany by train but can bang on about efficiency etc.

Last year, only 1/3 of long distance trains arrived on time and the flagship high speed ICE services, well 3/4 of them suffered delays. Trains are counted as delayed if more than 5 minutes late.

Were this article discussing such as X country some of the more ill informed know-alls on here would be apoplectic with rage.

DB has been going downhill for years. Too many rubbish unreliable modern units. The newer ICE's are particularly bad. They are also in a headlong rush towards privatisation which if its anything like the UK will mean not spending as much on maintenance as they should, and I did hear a lot of "signal failure" last time I was there, though personally I wasn't affected.

The Swiss have a standby set at Basel for when the DB ICs are late and it seemed to get used every other day when i was there last summer....

Having said that the comfort levels on their long distance trains are still second to none. Id rather be on a 10m late DB IC than an on time Voyager....

On my last trip over to there in march i enquired at berlin sud kreuz Hbf why the local s bahn station was closed over the weekend (not for the first time either)i was told there is major work being carried out in the whole of that area (noldnerplatz)which fell in the old DDR area and track needs relaying over the whole network eventually
Tho this is slightly off from the thread i was wondering if it is in any way connected.probably not as basel and the wonderful ICE trains get a mention
