Re: [John Treleven] FA Competition Applicants 2012-13 [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I have had letters confirming that Bovey Tracey, Cullompton Rangers and St Blazey have all failed to get into the FA Cup because of last seasons points per game ratios. The best of those was Cullompton with 39 points from 38 games.

Of the sides I can therefore presume have been accepted the lowest was Tavistock with 53 points from 38 games - not sure though exactly where the line is nationally as a big difference between 39 points and 53 points

"The F.A.Cup has a full house down to step 5 except for 5 step 5 sides."

After that a correction - I misread my notes re step 6 - ALL BUT 54 (i.e. 192) of the 246 step 6 sides have applied
plus 2 from step 7 and a further 2 "oddment" entries.

Therefore I assume the last acceptances will be taken from these 196 applicants. (see below)

Once the acceptances are announced on Friday (6th July) you can go to each of the divisions
and work out the lowest placed acceptance and the highest placed refusal.

Then work out the points ratio for each of these 30 or so teams and that should give
you the dividing point between acceptances and refusals.

The last four below are the two step 7 and two "oddment" entries.

I have used Phil's example for the S.W.Peninsula League although I make Torpoint his lowest acceptance,
rather than Tavistock, unless some other criteria has already come in to play.

Then to use that as a base I have filled in the league points for the Western League section.

From the S.W.P guideline the top 6 listed in the W.L. will have been accepted (as they have better
points ratios than Torpoint) and the bottom 3 will have been rejected (as they have worse points
ratios than Cullompton).

The 6 in the middle (Welton - Shepton Mallet) are as yet unknown
but when they are it will give a much better idea of where the dividing line came.

Re: [John Treleven] FA Competition Applicants 2012-13 [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Does anyone know what the max number of clubs COULD be accepted assuming the number of rounds remains the same and exemptions also remain. Also if the only exemption are league clubs in first and third rd proper?

3rd round, 44 exemptions and 20 clubs from 2nd round
2nd round, 20 matches, 40 teams
1st round, 40 matches, 80 teams, 48 exempt and 32 qualifyers
4q round. 32 matches, 64 teams, 24 (Conference Prem) exempt plus 40
3Q Round. 40 matches, 80 teams
2Q Round. 80 matches, 160 teams, 44 (Conference N/S) exempt plus 116
1Q Round. 116 matches, 232 teams, 66 (Premier Divisions) exempt plus 166
Prelim. 166 matches, 332 teams 132 (Step 4 teams) exempt plus 200
Extra Prelim - Maximum of 200 matches.

Which if I have added it up correctly is 758 teams maximum.

If they made the 4th Qualifying Round all in (for non-league) and moved the exemptions down a round, they could have 1000+ entries and not have to exclude anyone!

4q Round. 32 matches, 64 teams
3q Round. 128 teams, 24 (Conference Prem) exempt plus 104
2q Round. 208 teams, 44 (Conference N/S) exempt plus 164
1q Round. 328 teams, 66 (Premier Divisions) exempt plus 262
Prelim. 524 teams, 132 (step 4 teams) exempt plus 392
Extra Prelim Up to 784 teams

By my rough calculations, this would cater for up 1142 teams in total.

One extra match for the Conference Premier sides. All clubs with the correct facilities could enter, even if they are not in the NLS.

Another radical idea would be to scrap the two Preliminary Rounds and just have six Qualifying Rounds. Wink
