What was the football game at Walsall RFC?

If I'm talking non-football, Wilderspool and Galle Oval would be up there and the GAA games at Mullingar and Longford would probably be in there for me!

QK Southampton 5 Bournemouth Sports 4
Fair Oak 3 Andover Lions 6
AFC Totton 8 Bradford PA 1
Meonstoke 4 Soberton U 3
Bognor R 4 Godalming T 4 (Bognor won on pens)

best 5 grounds visited (facilities, welcome, and atmosphere)
Bognor
Gosport
Havant and Waterlooville
Lewes
Hassocks

least favourite 5 grounds visited - not really fair, since I have been to a lot of Step 7 grounds which don't claim to have the facilities, and all grounds have their people who do their best to make a visit a positive experience....
Bemerton
Blackfield & Langley
Hayling
Romsey
Paulsgrove

I went to 5 league grounds this season, I had a much better experience at Brighton than St. Mary's.
Best food (I don't eat much at football grounds) - soup at Lewes

Cradley and Cirencester? Really?

Ok Cirencester I could accept but CRADLEY? You must have chosen some rotten grounds to go to if that's one of your favourites.

I knew you would say that haha , no in all honesty that was just out of the new grounds i had been as i hadnt done to many new ones this season , i would also say Portishead or Bromyard were equally as good really , Cradley ok .. is abit of a dump but it does have a kind of charm in parts , fields around , a view towards the lickeys or clent hills .. these places are run on a shoestring and not only counting the ground , i was talking to a official of Cradley who was one of the nicest people around and the programme was really good to , so thats also why i chose it.

Could well be by the time you and 2 other hoppers are in situ on Saturday

I anticipate that at least one of our games on Saturday will be likely contender for worst game of the season

Best games
Bangor – Bala 2-1; thoroughly enjoyable, as was…
Brighton – Middlesbrough 1-1
Stocksbridge – North Ferriby 7-0; some great attacking football at a lovely ground... and it was free :)
Alfreton – Lincoln 1-3; for finally seeing a Lincoln team show some passion
Hearts – Hibs 5-1; for the result more than the game

Worst games
Ossett T – Fylde 0-0; by no means an outright stinker, just not particularly entertaining and it was goalless
Tamworth – Lincoln 4-0; fine for the neutrals and home fans, no doubt, but a truly horrendous Lincoln performance which resulted in Tilson’s sacking… so actually quite a bonus for the Imps fans at that time

Best new grounds
Hampden; great atmosphere
Bangor; a classic, old-fashioned ground which was full of character
Lincoln United; a nice ground with leafy surrounds and an interesting range a stands

Five best matches seen last season -

1) St Neots Town v Bedworth United - 23rd August 2011 - 1-2
2) Hinckley United v Tamworth - 12th November 2011 - 2-2. The final twelve minutes were as exciting as anything seen for a long long time.
3) Hampton and Richmond Borough v East Thurrock United - 31st January 2012 - 4-1
4) Grays Athletic v Needham Market - 7th March 2012 - 4-2
5) Tilbury v Needham Market - 5th May 2012 - 3-4

Not worth the time and trouble -

1) Brentwood Town v Hemel Hempstead Town - 20th September 2011 - 0-0
2) Aveley v Hastings Town - 31st October 2011 - 1-0
3) Sporting Bengal v Clapton - 17th January 2012 - 1-0
4) Birmingham City v Southampton - 4th February 2012 - 0-0. Though the day was somewhat different.
5) M & B Club v Runwell Hospital - 31st May 2012 - 1-0

Best day out was Bideford v Wimborne Town - 11th February 2012. Even though the match was decidedly average.

Best 5 'new' non league grounds visited 2011-12 season.

29/8 Brimscombe and Thrupp
22/10 Bangor City
25/2 Gainsborough Trinity
10/3 Tow Law Town
6/4 Liversedge

5 new grounds visited that I didn't really like (I could only think of 4!)

29/8 Hengrove Athletic
8/10 Cheltenham Saracens
7/1 Sheerwater
24/4 Spelthorne Sports

5 best games seen in 2011-12 season.

16/7 - Guernsey FC 5-6 AFC Wimbledon X1 - Unexpected bonus on a wedding anniversary short break, Guernsey FC's 1st ever game whilst I was there. Highly entertaining game, and immediately clear that Guernsey would easily win a Step6 league on the mainland.

20/8 - Kidsgrove Athletic 3-3 Lincoln United - A slow burner that got better and better as the game wore on, and climaxed with a stunning 25 yard equaliser for grove in injury time.

12/11 - FA Cup 1st Round - AFC Totton 8-1 Bradford Park Avenue - The most one sided game I saw all season, BUT Totton were an absolute joy, and attacked with great purpose and scored some crackers, they have been a terrific team over the last few seasons.

12/3 - Windsor 3-3 Hanworth Villa - Two really good footballing teams and a game of two half's on a carpet of a pitch. Hard to believe this was a Step5 game, thoroughly enjoyable midweek game enjoyed by quite a number of hoppers.

5/5 - Benson 4-4 Harwell International (North Berks Div One) - A rare Step7 tick for me, and glad I made the effort. As per above, both teams went for it, scored some crackers, and the standard of football was way above what I expected. Free to watch, and all 5 of the hoppers present left with a smile playing about our faces.

http://hopticklist.wordpress.com/...lassic-at-benson-fc/

Bonus game Smile

27/9 - BHA 1-3 Crystal Palace (Ht 1-0)

Build a gound in the middle of nowhere with no good transport links and they will come, and they did, and they left early, as three goals in the last ten minutes, created the legendary phrase - "For f*cks sake Murray' (thanks to You tube), as ex seagull Glenn Murray banged in the decisive third in the dying minutes. The first winners at the shiny Amex Stadium, marvellous!

best 5 grounds visited (football, atmosphere and gute laune)
Garries Park, Gatehouse-of-Fleet roped off park, but lovely in the sun
Sportspark Hofland, Montfoort all that's best (and worst) about Dutch shamateur football
Cowling Sports Ground all that's best of West Ridng Amateur Cup
Cotlands Park, Kennoway I can't separate ground seen from my experience of the game
and Fall Lane Marsden (as for Cowling)

least favourite grounds visited
Burnley Campus - hacked off from the game being called off at Waddington, I turned up at this peach of a ground (not)
Much Hoole Recreation Ground - as per above, only for Bolton United
Dalgety Bay Sports Centre again as per above, only for Stein Thistle
and of course the overpriced boxes that pass as new builds Colchester, Doncaster .......

the five best games:
Kennoway 3 Valleyfield Amateurs 2 Fife Amateur Cup
St.Andrew's 1 Kilbirnie Ladeside 1 Scottish Junior Cup (pity Ididn't see the replay)
Cowling 4 East End Park 3
West Riding Amateur Cup
Liverpool U-19 0 Ajax U-19 6 Next Gen Series; apart from the queue to get into the ground; Liverpool lucky to get 0
and then perhaps the England women's game on Sunday

two of the worst
Dalgety Bay 2 Glenrothes Amateurs 0 (see above for DB SC) and
Daneshouse 1 Belvedere 3 (see above for Burnley Campus)

[Dearest Tabby or may I call you Tabs for short ...

I wasn't expecting this and to be honest it was one remarkable day. I met His Lordship at West Ruislip station not long after 8.30 in the morning. The temperature was -7 and we had nowhere to go, but only a rough plan on the pretence that if the forecast was correct the temperature would rise after we passed Bristol and so it did. We came off the M4 and the temperature had risen to -3. TT started to get on the blower, all games were frozen off as far as we had driven and Weston-super-Mare was the next game to fall. On the level with Weston the temperature broke even and TT spent the next 10 minutes working on the South West Peninsular League website and struck lucky with 'game on' at Ivybridge Town. We had a game, in fact at one of my predicted locations, but could we go one better. Coming up to the Tiverton turn off with one final effort TT got through to Bideford and half an hour later we were basking in five degrees of sunshine at South Molton. The game was very ordinary and passed without incident 3-1 to Bideford. We headed for home and on reaching Bristol the temperature dropped and we arrived at West Ruislip with the temperature back at -7. I've known TT a little over three years. He's a bit smarter than the average bear and if I had gone without him I probably would not have got a game. So the moral here: Take a break, have a kat-kat!]

======================================================

Best day out was Bideford v Wimborne Town - 11th February 2012. Even though the match was decidedly average.

Two games left for a 172 finish.

Top 5 Games as a fan..

Cambridge Utd 1-2 Wealdstone- An amazing result for all sorts of reasons. Proudest day watching the Stones
Wealdstone 2-1 Barrow - The first of the Stones "Giant" killings in this year's FA Trophy
Wealdstone 1-0 Dartford - Real backs to the wall stuff. Holding on with 9 men against quality opponents
Wingate & Finchley 0-5 Wealdstone - Stones played some scintillating stuff as should have got double figures.
Wealdstone 3-1 Concord Rangers - Needing a point to get into the play-offs, did it the hard way after going 1-0 down. relief all round.

Top 5 Games as a neutral..

Northwood 3-4 Sittingbourne - classic cup tie that had it all
Peterborough Utd 2-3 Leeds Utd - red cards, last minute winner, end to end stuff and great day out
Godalming Town 2-1 Worcester City - An FA Cup giant killing and 30c in October
London Colney 1-0 Hoddesden Town - A really good match with plenty of good football on show
CB Hounslow 0-4 Guernsey - Again, some really cracking step 6 football

Yes Mr Peru, let's have a re-run. Like you I'm a stones fan, hate going to Northwood. This was my best of the season and yours too?

[45. Tuesday 11 October 2011 – FA Trophy Preliminary Round Replay – Attendance: 109
Northwood (red/red/red) 3 – 4 Sittingbourne (sky, navy sleeves/navy/navy) – 2-2 at 90 minutes
This was a rare visit to Northwood, not one of my favourite grounds, but by the time this game had ended even the most partisan supporter had seen a remarkable game of football. The opening phase saw both goalkeepers beaten to the ball by their opponents, both chances were missed and a ricocheted clearance spun through the Northwood goal area. Midway through the first half, Sittingbourne won a free-kick 35 yards out. Up stepped Anthony Hogg to strike the ball past Northwood’s goalkeeper. 0-1 at half-time, but 0-2 moments into the second half, Northwood gave away a penalty and Ryan Golding scored from the spot. Northwood immediately lost their discipline and an ugly foul brought a second yellow card, followed by a red one. The Northwood player was guilty of a bout of petulance, but the foul was an act of foolishness. A less lenient referee would have had just cause to reduce the home side to nine men, but he relented, despite a punch thrown by another Northwood player. With Northwood down to ten men they started to play. Garry Senior pulled one goal back and a 73rd minute penalty converted by Jonathan Constant levelled the scores at 2-2. Extra time was end to end stuff, as Sittingbourne went 2-3 up, with a rasping shot from Luke Girt. Northwood levelled again, as Romaine Walker ran through a static defence. The match was into the 119th minute, when the home defence left Elie Kayembe unmarked. His finish sent a dozen visiting supporters home ecstatically happy. Star Man: Billy Manners (Sittingbourne)]

London Colney 1-0 Hoddesden Town - A really good match with plenty of good football on show
CB Hounslow 0-4 Guernsey - Again, some really cracking step 6 football

Two games left for a 172 finish.

[Reading Senior Cup Final and my usual last game in Wales to finish]

Best five grounds visited:

PONTYPRIDD, ABERAVON, CROSS KEYS, BRIDGEND, NEATH

Yes I know they're eggchasing but fantastic 70's archaic relics of the past still to be enjoyed!

Best five footy grounds visited:

LEWES, DARTFORD, ST. DENNIS, HAMPTON & RICHMOND, BRIGHTON & HOVE

Lewes wins hands down for a wonderful array of old mixed in with the new. As for the Amex, well the grounds fine shame about the infrastructure!

Worst five grounds visited:

Upwey & Broadwey, Tintinhull, Nailsea Town, Nuneaton Town, Chelmsford City

First three had nothing memorable about them and last two are in essence former rugby & athletics tracks so difficult to have fond memories.

Best game: Hampton & Richmond 4 Truro City 3 - Non-Lge at it's best!

Worst game: Pompey 0 Leeds 0 - my only 0-0 of the season!
