As Littlehampton appear to have been given their promotion confirmation 'on paper' and have supposedly geared their preparations already for a Div. 1 campaign, I cannot conceive any fair way of withdrawing that permission now, at least - not without Littlehampton themselves graciously declining the invitation.

Div 1 fixtures for the entire season now on the website, Littlehampton aren't in it.

It seems that someone contacted the NLP to say a meeting had been arranged. My contact on the management committee informs me no such meeting was arranged and he was rather surprised to read the info in the NLP, even more so as the league Chairman was not due back in the country until yesterday.

The situation regarding Pease Pottage is that the local council condemed the clubhouse and changing rooms recently, so the manager and players walked out. Everyone still awaiting news if club will fold totally or if they will manage to field some teams in other leagues.

Division 3 will now proceed with only 12 teams after the withdrawal of Forest and Pease Pottage. Littlehampton have decided against an appeal and will compete in Division 2.

division 3 never seemed to be able to expand much beyond a central A23/A24 corridor even when it had more teams. It seems that Sussex teams further afield were happy to stay in comparable regional leagues. Wonder if it has any future at all now tbh?...

I think its the beginning of the end.

If they increased Division Two to 20 teams, that could accommodate two of the 12 - i.e. Barnham and Haywards Heath Town.

The remaining 10 could then be scattered between the West Sussex, East Sussex and Mid Sussex Leagues.

The West Sussex League currently has 12 members so move Billingshurst, Clymping, Ferring, Sidlesham and TD Shipley into that to take it up to 17.
The Mid Sussex currently has 14 - so move Ifield Edwards and Roffey into it to take up to 16.
The East Sussex currently has 12 - so room for Hurstpierpoint, Rottingdean Village and Uckfield Town to take it up to 15.

Place all three leagues at Step 7 - below County Division Two.

Maybe your forecast will prove right.

I find Sussex division three a bit of an oddity anyway because of the clubs being excluded from the League Cup.

I now consider both Sussex League Div.3 & SSML Div.2 quite anachronistic these days and I reckon both ought to be dissolved in much the same way as that anomalous IL Div.2 at Step 5 was done away with.

Unless the two leagues wish to retain these clubs, of course, in which case merging them into the next division up might be possible, giving that division two side-by-side regional groups.
Might actually wrk for Sussex League Div.3, but for SSML Div.2? Not so sure.

Big respect to Littlehampton Town. They may not have finished in a promotion position in the first place, but they've been treated shoddily. Really hope they go up this season and that Dorking Wanderers and Chichester finish in the relegation places.

Bit harsh on Wanderers. They won promotion on the pitch and have spent tens of thousands of pounds doing the ground up which has been independently graded as a 'G'. It's not their fault they've been mucked around by 'persons unknown'.
Someone is attempting to sabotage the club - from prank phone calls to vandalism of their electrics and plumbing. Fair play to the club for battling through everything.
I don't think this story has been mentioned on here yet - http://www.thisissurreytoday.co.uk/...00-detail/story.html

I can't understand why you think Littlehampton, who didn't finish in a promotion place, deserve to be in Division One instead of Wanderers.

Fair enough re Wanderers. I guess I was more frustrated at how long it's taken to get the appeals sorted, and I felt that if Littlehampton Town had been assured of promotion in writing then the SCL should have stuck to their word. Why wait until a fortnight or so before the new season kicks off to sort this all out?

I have to say, though, when I hopped Wanderers on Christmas Eve, much as I enjoyed the scenery and admired what the club's achieved in a shirt space of time, I was surprised at how narrow it was on the flank next to the boundary fence.

I am still waiting for someone to explain why English clubs must have more than one side open to spectators. Perhaps I should write "why English ground grading regulations require clubs to have more than one side open to spectators".
I realise this has gone off-topic but I'm not expecting many answers.

Littlehampton's promotion was not ratified by the FA. When Chichester won their appeal, the FA board ruled that as Littlehampton finished outside of the promotion places in division 2, they were not eligible for the promotion spot. This is why they could not and did not appeal against the decision. It had nothing to do with the SCFL or the SCFA.

This is the published division 3 line up for this season. Perhaps they might play each other 3 times to make the season last longer.

The Spartan South Midlands Div 2 sits alongside the Herts County League in the pyramid, both promoting clubs to to SSML Div1. The former broadly covers the northern half of the SSML area and the Herts County the southern.
This arrangement, similar to the Western League/South West Peninsular League set up, works well in practice. Perhaps rather than being anachronistic it should be considered a modern, practical application of the pyramid principle.

Someone suggested to me it was a rival Sussex club doing all this which sounds like crazy talk but who knows.

And then there's all the trouble at the Dorking in the CCL with the club being broken into and vandalised regularly. At first that was put down to kids but things are now being said that puts a more sinister slant on it.
Who would have thought such a pleasant town as Dorking would have so much trouble?
