Not mentioned. I don't think it's the FA that set the date for that.

11 Aug FA Cup with Budweiser EP

So either the FA Cup will be starting before any league games are played or the leagues will be starting on 4th August which I didn't expect.

Historically, what's the earliest date on which the leagues have played their first games?

I don't know about historically but the CCL started on August 6th this season. Next season it's starting on August 4th.

One of the wonderful things about Mrs UKPunk is that she has never asked me to go shopping with her. She knows I hate it and excepts it with good grace.

She's not madly keen on shopping herself actually. She'd much rather visit a botanical garden or an art gallery. She really only goes shopping when there's no alternative.

FA Cup dates are a week earlier up to the first round proper, very early on Nov 3rd. It was on the 12th this season (and on the 24th in 1973).

I had the list emailled to me yesterday from Steve Clarks,Comps dept.

August 4th is too early to start a season. FA Cup on 11th Aug isa week before Football League even starts.

We are also back into the realms of FA Cup Prelim games on 25th Aug interupting Aug Bank Holiday Monday fixtures if they go to replays.

Sunday 12th May at Wembley according to an announcement on the Southport website last week (although we are of course far more interested in the League Two playoff dates Tongue ). North and South playoff finals will be on Sunday 5th May.

As Phil states, it's from an email sent by the FA to the leagues. I got a copy via the CCL mailing list. I've edited the list quite a lot as it had all the national team games and some other FA competitions on it. Plus I didn't want to get done for copyright theft!

Would the fa hold clubs to bank holiday replays? Surely replays could be the following midweek?

The FA Trophy final has been brought forward to the end of March; apparently to allow teams to better deal with focussing on the league as it draws to a conclusion, and no doubt to avoid a repeat of a situation like York this year in which a team has trips to Wembley on consecutive weekends. As a result the remaining rounds have also been brought forward by a month or so.

FA Trophy 2012-13 Round Dates

Preliminary Round
Saturday 15 September 2012

First Round Qualifying
Saturday 29 September 2012

Second Round Qualifying
Saturday 27 October 2012

Third Round Qualifying
Saturday 10 November 2012

First Round Proper
Saturday 24 November 2012

Second Round Proper
Saturday 15 December 2012

Third Round Proper
Saturday 12 January 2013

Fourth Round Proper
Saturday 26 January 2013

Semi Final First Leg
Saturday 16 February 2013

Semi Final Second Leg
Saturday 23 February 2013

Final
Sunday 24 March 2013

The FA Vase final will now be played on Saturday May 4th rather than the following day as originally scheduled.

They have to be by Thursday, which virtually always results in the postponement of the bank holiday league game. It's generally too late to rearrange other fixtures for teams not involved in replays but have lost their bank holiday game.

You can certainly see a few step 4 clubs that win few FA Cup and Trophy matches, so with some going to replays, could easily go 5 weeks without a league game, by which time they could have county cup and league cup ties to take precident over delayed league games

Which is why 24-team leagues will signal the death-knell for county cups and league cups. I've never seen much point in the latter but County Cup history goes back a very long way and it would be a shame to discard them, tjhough you'd expect anyone above Step 5 to grace it with their stiffs (if they have to) for practical reasons.......

Scrap League Cups and play County Cups pre-season. Better weather and they can be played on Saturdays as well. Sorted.

This. Clubs should probably limit themselves to one county cup anyway. A 46 game season is a long slog and if you have just a reasonable Cup or Trophy run you're already falling behind.

No idea how they will fit all the fixtures in given that even this season, which was a good year postponements wise, still had Oxford playing Sat-Tue-Thur-Sat in the last week. Not that it affected them much!

Already happens - last season Stourbridge (step 3, of course) played a League game at Bashley on 8th October, then 9 games in the FA Cup, FA Trophy, Birmingham Senior Cup and League Cup, before our next League game at home to Frome on 19th November. Then we had another four Cup matches before playing Cambridge at home in the League on 6th December.

That's one League match in 58 days! Serves us right for doing so well...
