Strange that Newport (IoW) are in a different section to most of the New Forest teams which are a lot closer than the likes of Tadley, Alton & Whitchurch

Northamptonshire CCC still unbeaten this season

Maybe they use the Fishbourne to Portsmouth ferry.

Either east or west would have thought it made sense to have both IOW teams would be in same section, rather than this way, with one in each

It really does show how much the powers that be in this league know.
Two clubs on the Isle Of Wight in two different divisions.
When does any common sense come into their thinking ?
If the officials are anything like the Wessex League then common sense is not part of their structure.

Perhaps "the powers that be" think it's fairer that all clubs in Division One should have one trip to the island rather than half of them having two?

If that is the case then why can mainland clubs play local derbies, yet Isle Of Wight clubs cannot have just one.
Also the cost of travelling to and from the Island is tremendous, so surely some clubs would not wish to come over.
Why the two Island clubs enter this league amazes me. Waste of money.

If you run a reserve team and it is a real reserve team. supporting the first team then this league did its job well last year.

The standard in the prem was well above Wessex League Prem with clubs using Wyvern matches to bring back injured players or giving vital run outs to out of form players or trialists.

The fact that two IoW clubs enter shows that they are forward thinking.

Contrast this with the old Wessex combination, the standard was much much lower and at Poole we regularly get crowds of close to 100 for these games. Great value for £2.

When you say far superior to Wessex prem are you referring to a Wessex reserve league prem?

Well above Wessex Premier? Are you sure? Having seen five or six games in both leagues I have to disagree with you.

I am sorry that i was not clear in my earlier post.

Yes the standard of the Wyvern League Premier is much higher than the old Wessex League Combination. Some of the games were close to Southern League Standard and so, by definition, better than the Wessex League Premier Division.

Of course the Wyvern Div 1, are made up of team largely from the old Wessex Combination and I would expect a similar standard. However as I did not see any Div 1 Matches, I cannot comment.

Eastleigh appear to have withdrawn their team from Wyvern Premier, just few days before first scheduled fixture.

Eastleigh's new owners seem ambitious. Have they sacrificed the Reserves to fund the first team?

No.

From their news=
Wyvern League Withdrawal
It is with regret that Eastleigh Football Club has decided to pull out of the Wyvern League. We will remain in the Surburban League as it is considered a much higher standard of football

Must be a good league then as the standard of the Wyvern Premier was quite high.

Where the Wyvern League Premier has the reserves of clubs from Step 2 to Step 5, newly relegated Tooting & Mitcham are the sole Step 4 representative in Premier A of the Suburban with the 1st teams of all the other clubs being Steps 1, 2 or 3.

Northwood, Threave Rovers, Arsenal, Watford, Rochdale, Rangers (the real ones, NOT qpr), queen of the south and a few others.

Maybe its to do with geography? Maybe many of Eastleigh's reserve team members are based east of Eastleigh. As looking at the lineups for both leagues I don't belive the standard to be any better in the Suburban League than in the Wyvern.

Distance wise its a no brainer - they should be in the Wyvern League. Thats what makes me think there's other reasons for them wanting to travel to London (Carshalton, Bromley, Sutton, Tooting & Mictham), Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire for away matches, rather than travel down along the road to the clubs in the Salisbury, Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth areas.

The two Premier Divisions of the Suburban League are equivalent to step 5 in refereeing terms.
For something like 10 out of the last 12 seasons a Suburban side has won the Surrey Premier Cup which also has step 6 first teams in it. And you get three officials for every game whereas I think you only get one in the Wyvern.
Despite the travelling issue, many teams around here chose the Suburban over other, more local reserve leagues / divisions because the standard of play is high and it equips the players for first team football better.
Our reserve team usually does more travelling per game than the first team. We're not the only ones.

Sounds like a similar standard then although there the first team clubs in the Suburban League are at a higher level. May just be a case of better the devil you know.
