Belgium
West Vlaanderen Provincial 4A Promotion Play Off Final 2nd leg
3pm
KFC Woesten 1 Sparta Dikkebus 2 (1-3 agg) att.272
5 euros admission
No programme.

2nd v 4th from the league positions with the lower placed team deserving their win being far the better side throughout.
It took them just 4 minutes to double their lead from the first leg with a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Despite an equaliser five minutes after the break the tie was put beyond doubt on the hour with a penalty following a handball.
The ground consists of a railed pitch with advert infils around the whole pitch, whilst the only cover was an overhang on the front of the clubhouse, with a view through mesh fencing, although today it was used for the barbeque.
Driven across by Youngster, this time crossing on the ferry due to extortionate prices on the tunnel, which made a nice change, although it does add an hour to the journey each way.
Not a good day once again for paper chasers, with team sheets not even available, although we travelled minus the pram, so didn't witness anything being thrown outTongue, although the former hopper from Oxford may know different ?

APL kept us amused with his tales of Vietnam, especially when he told us about a couple of local children who tapped him on the stomach, and thought he was Buddha, they certainly hadn't seen anything like him before.

Certainly see why the locals could see a resemblance, smiley face and a rather large girth. All thats missing is the sticker of a certain Disney character, that somehow ended up on his coat yesterday.

SV Preussen Eiberg 11/31 1-1 SuS Niederbonsfeld

Kreisliga A Essen Sued-Ost, Admission/prog: no, att: 50(hc)

A rare grass pitch in the Essen Kreisliga. Terracing, some orange seats bolted to it in certain places and some railway/bus type shelters. They came in handy as we celebrated the jubilee with a right royal soaking! Not a bad game for a Kreisliga. Eiberg is obviously the more affluent part of Essen and the ground is just a 10 minute walk from Essen-Eiberg S-bahn station.

Also saw the last 10 seconds of Preussen Eiberg II 1-1 FC Kray III which was played on a mud bath of a Hartplatz, it's in the same complex but a separate ground. Railed off with cover.

ETB Schwarz-Weiss Essen 1-0 VfB Speldorf

NRW-Liga (Level 5), admission €8 to sit although the price list said €12 (€7 available to stand), programme free, att: 788

Good to meet up with mip, Leo and Briar News for this. Cracking ground even though some of the terracing has been grassed over in an attempt to tidy the ground and install segregation for away fans. The main stand is a cracker.

As for the game, average at best. The ground is easy to get to, bus 146 runs from the main rail station to a bus stop right outside the ground. It's also quite close to Marienstrasse U-bahn station.

Also with Nick at Preussen Eiburg. The seven of us were extremely
grateful of the cover as we'd nabbed one shelter soon as we'd arrived.

Decent game and justice was done when the away side got a laughable
penalty which was well saved by the stout goalie who had been rather
dodgy with his handling during the first half.

Then onto..

SC Westfalia Herne 04 0 v SSVg Velbert 6

NRW Liga.

Adm eu 7
Prog .50 eu

Att 400 est.

The 4th game of our wekend trip and the highlight as the six of us just
were blown away by this stunner of a ground.

A few other hoppers from Austria & Germany were here and spoke to a
lad who'd travelled up from Munich for this,he did tell me that this is the 23rd
largest stadium in Germany(stand to be corrected)

Herne were bottom and had a goal difference of minus 93 having scored just
13 goals all season so the result was what was expected really.

Three down after 20mins witrh the away side simply walking through the
home rearguard and the same in the second half with three more in a 15min
spell in the second half.

The Schloss strunkede is just amazing for those who haven't. Monstrous amounts
of terracing intact sweeping round three sides uninterrupted with a super size
main stand with wooden bench seats.

Another large ground but not as intact is the SVS-Stadion in Herne. You can see it once was a huge bowl.

Jack Bryson Final (played at Sauchie Juniors)

Treetops 2 Mauchenhill United 0
Admission £3
Programme - none available
Att c200

Thanks to LeedsPhil who gave me the heads up on this game.

Sauchie's ground is extremely well hidden behind some nursing home (thanks to prorege for giving me the directions when we met at Troon), but is a very pleasant surprise once found - with a large main stand on one side and a small covered terrace on the opposite side. There is a small area of cover behind one of the goals, but that was full of pitch maintenance equipment

Treetops were the local side, being based I think in Alloa, whereas the visitors come from Port Glasgow. The visitors I thought started better but really could not find the finishing touch to any of their attacks, and 2 late goals sealed a win for Treetops.

As always in Scotland, there were some strong tackles and choice language, before they all finished up shaking hands with each other

Nordrhein Westfalen Liga (level 5)
Schwarz-Weiss Essen v VfB Speldorf 1-0 (1-0) Admission €8, programme free (newspaper style club magazine covering three games), att. 788.

With everyone else managing to get a morning I managed to draw the short straw at TuS Holsterhausen, hardplatz waterlogged and 11.00 kick off called off at 10.40 - also happens outside the Scottish Juniors. In fairness there was standing water on much of the pitch and a game would have been farcical. Not a bad setup at the edge of Gruga Park, pitch railed with dressing rooms and clubhouse with a decent sized overhang at the near end.

I was disappointed that the bulk part of the huge terrace had been removed at Stadion Uhlenkrug in the tidy up of the ground to make it compliant for the NRW Liga. Only happened in 2009 or 10 so hadn’t registered on my radar yet. Still the huge bank around the ground gives you the feel of how it once was and the mainstand, I guess of 1920s vintage, is magnificent, now with seats bolted onto the benches. A great ground. The huge banks of terracing once common at German grounds are disappearing rapidly. I reckon Südwest Stadion in Ludwigshafen is now the largest one around but with no club playing there it’s hard to get a game there.

KYM has described the game very favourably, it was pants. The only goal was a free kick that eluded everyone, including the Speldorf keeper, and sailed into goal around the 15 minute mark. Speldorf should have nicked a point 2nd half but their finishing was atrocious. A win gave Schwarz-Weiss the chance of grabbing one of the play-off places for the Regionalliga but they needed other results to go their way which they didn't.

France, Centre Honneur, 3pm

Deols FC 4 AS St.Amand-Montrond 4 (HT 2-1)

Entry - free (end of season gesture?)

Programme - 16 pages, A5, free

Crowd - approx 60

After spending Saturday night in Tours I travelled by SNCF bus to Chateauroux, a journey which took 2 hours 30 mins. (You can go by train too, but you would have to change trains en route.) My destination was Deols, a large village or small town perhaps, which is separated from Chatearoux only by a river. Consequently it takes only 40 minutes to walk from the station. My choice of match was based on the location ie; not too far away from paris as to make it difficult to return home, but not too close to Paris as to make this one possible on an Eurostar daytrip. It turned out to be a very good choice, not only because the game was an eight-goal thriller but also there was the unexpected bonus of a programme. It has to be said though that the Centre region is probably the best part of France for programmes. Chateauroux issued a good A5 effort on my visit there some 12 years ago, and Amboise issued when I went there on an Eurostar daytrip some 2 or 3 years ago. I have also got programmes at Chateaudun and Joue-les-Tours (the latter being a single sheet.)

The Deols ground is a pretty average one in some ways, but has a nice elevated stand with screen ends that were welcome on a windy day. It is quite a spacious one with other pitches on the complex, and an impressive entrance that was not used as entry was free. There is also caging leading from the dressing-rooms to the pitch so I would imagine that the ground will meet CFA2 requirements should the club finish in a promotion spot. But it really was a very pleasant surprise to get a programme, a computer-produced colour issue that was mainly stats based. The game was great entertainment too, with both teams being next to each other in the table before the game. A great weekend all round.
