Uefa Under 19, elite stage

Switzerland 0 England 1

At Deepdale, Preston. Att 3622, Adm £3

Desperately dull. England qualify for Estonia with a 3 point margin which belies how lucky they were, needing very late goals to beat Switzerland tonight and draw with a lively Montenegrin side on Sunday.

Terrible organisation from Preston, with much of the crowd still queueing for tickets at the advertised kick off time, while useless officials and stewards stood around watching. Rochdale put them to shame.

Irvine Meadow (0) 1 Auchinlech Talbot (3) 5 - Ayrshire Cup Semi-Final admission £5 prog No - att c. 500 est

3 times scottish junior cup winners and recently retained super league champs (17th time) and thereby qualifying for next seasons scottish fa cup, Irvine Meadow aren't however going to add a 15th Ayrshire cup this season after being wholly demolished by a very impressive Talbot team...
A wonderful 1st half saw Talbot carve through the league champs to the joy of over a hundred visting fans.

Unfortunately the 2nd half decended into acrimony and 8 bookings and 2 sending offs tell their own story.. The catalyst was a red card for the visitors keeper after felling a forward and Meadow scored their only goal from the penalty to make it 1-3 and against 10 men it was game on..but Irvine's desparation to take advantage saw them commit suicide at the back and they too were reduced to 10 men after seeing Auchinlech score two 2nd half goals despite being a man down.

I saw Talbot saw seven a few weeks ago and I have to say they are a joy to watch..first time passing of a particularly high standard.

The ground has some (part crumbling) terracing on 3 sides and a substantial main seated stand. Parking is all over the local pavements and grass..

I suspect thats me done now for this season...grateful to the SJL for extending my season with some really enjoyable venues and matches..

PS Can anyone explain why I was bitten to shreds at Shotts but there were no midges around here..?

New Grounds this season 61: total grounds visited 1176

nb: i will only post re new grounds when BurgessHill Bee doesn't..(since he's far better informed than I)

Midges would be too busy in those derelict houses!

I was at

Cartmel and District 2-1 Highgrove @ Carnforth Rangers (Quarry Park)

North Lancashire League Senior Challenge Cup Final, att: 142(hc)

Quarry Park is down a dirt track called Quarry Road, you don't think there will be a football ground down it! Once you get to the end the ground is there complete with post and rail and a nice stand!

An excellent game where the quality of football on show exceeded my expectations. Cartmel deservedly won and both of their goals were crackers. They sat too deep late on and Highgrove threatened to equalise.

Excellent night out and a pre-match snifter at the George Washington in Warton. A new brewery for me, Old School Brewery and their Headmaster best bitter.

Grounds: 1151. Last New Ground: St Francis Xavier School, Liverpool. Games since 0-0: 212

Belgium Division 3/4 Relegation/Promotion Play Off
8.30pm
KVV Coxyde 3 Tempo Overijse 1 att.1,500est
10 euros admission
Free team sheet.

Despite finishing 7th in the league, a problem with the registration of one of their players led to a points deduction and demotion to 2nd bottom of the league for Coxyde, leaving them needing to win 2 games (3-1 AET v KVK Ieper) and tonights game to preserve their place in Division 3.
A win for the visitors would have seen them promoted from Division 4.
The visitors started very strongly, with Coxyde taking a while to get on top, with the breakthrough coming on 29 minutes with a good finish when put through one on one with the keeper. A second goal, from a penalty following a trip looked to have settled it on 37 minutes as Coxyde were attacking at will, but a goal on a quick break on 43 minutes put it back in the balance.
Tempo again started the stronger in the second half, with Coxyde again getting on top after about 10 minutes of the half, but the hosts were then reduced to 10 men, following a second yellow card, on 63 minutes which evened it up.
Coxyde finally killed it off with a goal 9 minutes from time when a corner was played to the corner of the box and hammered past the keeper at his near post.
Excellent atmosphere, helped largely by an away following in excess of 300.
The ground has recently undergone a lot of work, including the installation of a 3G pitch. The original stand is on the halfway line, consisting of 7 rows of seats, with the clubhouse behind the left hand goal where there are three steps of temporary looking terrace in front.
The far side has a brand new stand along the entire length of the pitch, the centre having 4 rows of seats, with terrace on each end.
The right hand goal end has flat standing, but has 3 rows of advert boards, with a scoreboard incorporated, giving a good enclosed feel.
Good company, as ever, from Kim Trub and comfortably back at the tunnel for our 2350 return.

Scottish Amateur League, Premier Division
Postal United 6 Inverclyde 1 (att 27 h/c)
Free admission, no prog
I was staying in Glasgow for work, so had an easy choice of a night in a hotel room or going less than three miles to tick off a new ground. First time I'd seen a game in this league, and started at the top as Postal are champions and, with this result, have completed their league season undefeated. Ground is a Alexandra Parade Sports Centre, a narrow grass pitch hemmed in by a mesh fence in the style of 3G venue.
