They have, but there are more than 26 clubs to have done that.

It's been a week. There has been one answer, and that wasn't correct. How long should I wait before posting the correct answer?

'fraid not. Buncranboy almost got it right. The answer is that they are the 26 clubs that have climbed from level 4 to level one in the football league.

Yes you're right. I made a copying error. Bolton should be in the list but Bristol City should not be.

Does climbed mean they went from 4 to 1 without being relegated, or can they have a relegation in their climb ?

Just four to one. Have you found another mistake?

Oxford never went direct from 4 to 1, from 1968 to 1976 they were in 2nd Division, relegated at end of 75/6 and stayed in Division Three until 83/4, when they won the division and then the following season won Division Two so were in Division One for 85/6.

Going in reverse they did the same thing, they went down as far as Division Three and then in 1996 came back up to Division Two, before free falling through the divisions

Sorry- when I said just four to one I meant climbing from level four to level one without any conditions as to how they did it. Reading didn't make it all in one go either - they climbed from four to two and then had a couple of hiccups before winning the Championship for the first time.
