Friday May 4th SC Victoria Hamburg 4 Niendorfer TSV 2 Oberliga Hamburg Admission €8 (inc A4 prog) For 50 minutes this looked a certain scoreless draw with the table-topping home team either wasting chances, holding onto the ball too long, or being judged offside (3 disallowed goals). They then scored twice in a minute, and although the visitors twice reduced the deficit to 1 goal the home team stayed on course for promotion in front of a healthy crowd of about 300. Not a bad ground too, with one main stand and uncovered terracing on two sides Saturday May 5th VFB Lubeck 1 Hanover 96 II 2 Regional Liga Nord Admission €16 (free prog) Best ground of the weekend, clearly Lubeck have been at a higher level some time ago. There was a very large main stand, covered seating opposite and the rest uncovered terracing. The side are near the bottom though, and trailing half way through the first half and then missing a penalty & hitting the bar with the rebound on the stroke of half time things didn't look like improving. They scored very early in the second period, and then did nothing, with the visitors scoring a deserved winner very near the end. Sunday May 6th SV Hamburg II 1 VFC Plauen 1 Regional Liga Nord Admission €12 (inc prog) Second match including a reserve team - maybe not ideal, but seeing as they play on a different ground, then I had no hesitation in venturing to a smart northern suburb, to a neat ground with about ten rows of covered seating down one side, with about three rows of uncovered terracing for the rest. The match was rubbish though. All individual play and little team effort, and too much of a propensity to fall over and look for a foul. Hamburg's first team just avoided relgation, and there's nothing coming through from the reserves. Plauen scored a penalty with about a quarter of an hour to go, and the home team equalised with the last kick of the game. I liked Hamburg, and needless to say the public transport system ( no trams this time) was superbly efficient and value for money. A few brewpubs worth seeking out as well, Groninger & Joh Albrechts in Hamburg, and Im Alten Zoll in Lubeck
