Saturday 28 April
Akropolis IF v Eskiltuna City FK
Division 1 Norra 80 sek Free 4 page progamme

Ground close to Akalla TBana on the blue line. Crowd given as 297 (Thanks Hoddy) with around 40 from the away team
Dissapointing game which finished scoreless although both teams had chances to win.
There was no cover or seating. The only terracing was behind the goal near the entrance and at the half way line. Food and drink sold. Glad the weather was nice

Sunday 29 April
Djurgarden IF v Kalmar FF
Ticket bought online from www.ticnet.se 250 sek + 25 sek (print at home) Block B Free coloured programme

Enjoyable game which finished 1-1 and an enjoyable ground to visit. Bus 55 took us from our hotel direct to the ground and Tbana from Stadion back. I was told they are moving during next season.

For those flying to Arlanda I would recommend taking Bus 583 to Marsta and then local train to Stockholm. We bought a 7 day pass (we were there 5 days) which is valid for the whole of the Stockholm area which meant we did not have to pay the Flybussen or Arlanda Express charges. It took about an hour from Airport to Central

Re: [T P Johnson] Swedish Weekend [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Cut and pasted from WDYG 1-2 May 2012 - TP Johnson's pass would have covered as far as Soedertalje

Alby IP
Div 2 Sodra Svealand (Swedish level 4)
Konyaspor 2-1 Karlskoga
Attendance: approx 200
Admission: 50 SEK (£4.70)

A very sunny afternoon in SW Stockholm on this artificial surface. It's only 6 minutes walk from Alby Tunnelbana and there's only 1 entrance. Spectator accommodation is all down 1 side, with two uncovered stands - a wooden 10 step terrace, generally used for seating and a smaller 5 step metal bench seat stand. Catering was in the adjacent Sports hall, or kebabs cooked on a barbecue (50 SEK). I can't see how soccerway has this as a 2000 capacity. It's only roped off on the 1 side.

Konyaspor have a Turkish background - there were a few Syrianska tracksuit tops, as well as Hammrby, Djurgarden and Turkish team tops amongst the crowd. They play in Celtic style green and white hoops. Actually they played some nice football, taking the lead with a goal that may not have crossed the line, before being pegged back by a nice chip. In the 2nd half the no.10 lost his marker and cut into the penalty area, dribbled round a player and slotted it into the back of the net. 4 minutes of injury time was more than I've seen at any game in Sweden and not well received by the home crowd, but the scares were over by that point and their win was deserved. Enjoyed the visit - no programme, but you did get a ticket and a Div 2/3 season fixture schedule. 100th ground outside the English league system for meCool

Allsvenskan (Swedish level 1)
Soedertaelje Fotbollarena
Syrianska 1-4 Elfsborg
Admission: 160SEK (£15) / 100 SEK (standing)
Attendance: 1610 (correction identified by the Hoderator)

Couldn't fault the journey either way, tunnelbana, train and bus there and no need for the tunnelbana on the way back, all on time. Cheapest was to get a 24 hour Stockholm pass (it covers Soedertaelje county also) at 115 SEK, though it does involve getting an SL-Access card (Oyster equivalent). Necessary anyway as the 16-token strip ticket stops being sold in 2 weeks time. Otherwise it's 4 tokens each way - transport being integrated (isn't that novel?), you can use multi-modes on the same ticket for up to 75 minutes (sometimes longer if you get a friendly barrier attendant). The ground is right next to the ice hockey rink, in the suburb of Genate, a bus journey from either Oestertaelje (the quickest station for Stockholm) or Soedertaelje centrum. It's shared with Assyriska, who have a permanent club shop there - Syrianska's is a temporary on the day stall.

It's fair to say Syrianska are not one of the best supported teams in Sweden and a midweek fixture against a town (thanks mip) 400km away was never going to get them in. The small metallic uncovered stands behind each goal were unused - home fans had no standing option (though they were on sale on the Internet?) whilst 100 away fans occupied the far side concrete uncovered terrace, with the sun in their eyes until it dropped below the large covered Main Stand that dwarfs the rest of the ground. That said, the Syrianska fans started nosily, drumming, signing and clapping, and the standing Elfsborg fans kept going all game with flag waving and songs. Pittas were available in the car park inside the ground, with hot dogs etc in the stand. I'm not sure there was anything much available to the away fans.

The pitch is 3G and is wearing. From the start, Elfsborg imposed themselves and cut through the Syrianska defence like a knife through butter. Their 2-0 half time should have been more and they were comfortably 4 up after 65 minutes. Syrianska's goal came with the last kick off the game, unbelievably deep into injury time, giving Syrianska a very flattering score. Whilst half time had been meet with whistles, the home support were still stunned and happy their side had scored when the full time whistle blew. The only singing 2nd half was from the away fans.

Caught most of the Chelsea-Newcastle and end of Spurs-Bolton games in the Limerick pub, which did decent food and Innis & Gunn beers for 55 SEK. Interesting bus connections back to Oestertaelje - all are timed to connect with the trains there (7 minutes ahead), so there's a convoy of buses all leaving within a minute of each other from Soedertalje Centrum. Last train to Stockholm 0012, I was on the one before.
