If you take photos at football grounds (inside and out) for publication in a magazine or book, are there copyright issues at certain levels of the pyramid (i.e. Premier League, Football League & Conference National)

Using images in books is a fvcking nightmare, trust me...
I've been at war with Dataco and all their little wizards
for the past six months re pictures, which has meant a
massive delay to the book I have been writing for the past
two years.

This link will give you some idea. According to my sources,
139 books were pulped last year, because of their draconian
rules.

Good luck

A bit off topic, but are Dataco the same people who deal with the Fixture Lists? a set of thieves and con artists who are just a bunch of jumped up little Hitlers who use terror on people to protect there interests.

Me and a mate built a website a few years ago, it was not primarily a football website, just something about is and our local community, but we decided to publish the North East Football Premier League and Football League Fixtures, I had done it on sites before with no problem, but this time round, the site got a particularly strongly worded cease and desist letter from some law firm stating in no uncertain terms what would happen if we didnt pull the fixture lists, my mate was mortified, close to a nervous breakdown, thought he was going to prison and going to be bankrupted by the bastards, we just pulled the site in the end as my mate lost heart in it and I didnt want to keep it up on my own, canny site it was as well, we were well on course to hit about 25,000 hits in it's first year(not bad for a site that was really about nothing of real interest)

They are just a bunch of jumped up little Nazis who prey on people who cant and mostly wont fight them, people like me and my pal, who do something just for ourselves and our friends, we did not make a penny on the website, it was done completely free on the old geocities and 0catch, so we were never about making money and if we did it would never have probably been more than loose change.

They make me sick, and if I aired my true opinion about them, I would be arrested for serious crimes

I did hear that their 'Stasi' trawl websites - official and unofficial - of Premier
and Football League clubs, checking whether any fixtures have been posted
by those who have not stumped up their 8k plus at the start of the season.

That is absolutely shocking, 8 grand+ to publish 38/42/46 lines of text on a webpage...

If I decided to charge thousands for people to put stuff on a website, I would be deemed a robber and a thief and the law would probably come after me...

But people like DataCo get away with legalised extortion, theft and robbery and wont think twice about ruining peoples interests and livelihoods, which makes me think do DataCo fall foul of Monopoly Laws, do they have any competition as I thought there were regulations in place to deal with Monopolies, dont the MMC have some form of regulations dealing with these issues

There was a test case against them recently but trying to
read through the legalese was a nightmare in itself and I
took two days trying to work out who were the winners.

Should find it on Google..about two/three months ago.

Going back to the picture thingy, although still awaiting an
official edict, there seems to be no mention of Wembley or
the Millennium Stadium, just PL and FL grounds, so I may
still have a get out clause, before I have to resort to Plan B.

I spotted on the BBC website recently The European Court of Something has decided there is no creativity required in creating a set of fixture lists, so they can't be copyrighted. I think it just now needs someone to stand up to dataco citing this ruling in court. Maybe Strasbourg is useful for something after all.

That's the one...but I recollect reading the article and thinking
that it wasn't quite as straight forward as it first seemed.

Clear as mud pro temps...Didn't realise that this had been in place
since 1959. I presume the powers that be turned a blind eye to
websites putting up fixture lists, until Dataco got their grubby little
paws on it.

There weren't a great deal of websites publishing fixture lists in 1959 Tongue

You didn't have the internet in 1959, where

Here is a question about fixtures again, I like to keep track of certain teams over a season and draw up the fixture lists on a Spreadsheet, I like to keep track of different statistics over the course of the season.

Am I actually in breach of Football Datacos rules by saving a fixture list on my hard drive or does it only apply if I started to publish my stuff???

I don't now when dataco got involved but I've read that in the very early days (long before the internet) the Football League did go to some considerable lengths to "protect" the fixture lists. For a time they even stopped publishing them more than a couple of weeks in advance. I guess it was the internet and proliferation of websites that were considered to be evading payment that lead to the creation of the Devils' Spawn that is dataco.
