Sadly they are paying the price for the fact that the League has no idea about security of tenure and has not enforced the requirement for some time. There are a number of clubs in the League in this situation. They do not have leases or their leases have expired. In at least one case a club is playing under a monthly licence. If the FA do get heavy with South Shields, let's hope they apply the rules even handedly. Step 5 has a requirement for a 1 year tenure, but step 6 has not, so a monthly license could be OK in the 2nd level. If they've been given notice to quit at the end of the season anyway, then they just need to find somewhere for next season. Presumably if they hadn't got any tenure and the rule had been enforced, they'd either had to have played somewhere else this season or drop a level to the 2nd division, so I disagree about this being a price for the league failing to enforce that.
