...but not you, Tom!!

(I did it 20 years ago - at the time it was a new ground. I saw South Shields at Jack Clark park in 1987. That ground has been used by a number of Wearside teams over the years)

Possibly working, possibly at a game. After tomorrow's adventure I'll have about £35 left to spend on football this season... Blush

There's speculation in the latest edition of Northern Ventures Northern Gains (NVNG) that Gateshead Thunder RLFC plan to buy Filtrona Park - and keep South Shields on as groundsharing tenants. Incidentally, NVNG is doing a special issue for the all-Northern League FA Vase Final.

There's as much pride in this club as there is at Anfield - just fewer people showing it.

Sadly they are paying the price for the fact that the League has no idea about security of tenure and has not enforced the requirement for some time.

There are a number of clubs in the League in this situation. They do not have leases or their leases have expired. In at least one case a club is playing under a monthly licence.

If the FA do get heavy with South Shields, let's hope they apply the rules even handedly.

Step 5 has a requirement for a 1 year tenure, but step 6 has not, so a monthly license could be OK in the 2nd level. If they've been given notice to quit at the end of the season anyway, then they just need to find somewhere for next season. Presumably if they hadn't got any tenure and the rule had been enforced, they'd either had to have played somewhere else this season or drop a level to the 2nd division, so I disagree about this being a price for the league failing to enforce that.

Saves me having to do it, otherwise it would join the bunch of other NL grounds that I visited trying to clear the league that no longer exist!!

Gateshead Thunder have two games scheduled at Filtrona Park at present.

One is tomorrow @3.00 v Barrow

the other is on July 1st @3.00 v Rochdale.

Apparently they plan to play a couple more there as well but no details yet.

All good news for anybody who hasn't done the ground yet.

I think their next four home games will be played at South Shields. Interesting end of the article which says Thunder may purchase the ground if playing at Filtrona is a success.

I'm hopefully going to the game vs London Skolars.

Filtrona Park sounds a lot more fun to me. Unless you like gold-topped churches of which Kiev has numerous.
