City are currently second in the First Division and likely to occupy one of the promotion places. However, if they do not have the new ground ready by mid May they will be relegated to Division Two.

To clarify - the cricketers have already taken over the Meeting Ground for the remainder of the season, so City may have played their last game there.

This week's home game against East End takes place at Nairn's Showfield.

Inverness City were to have used Clachnacuddin's ground this Saturday (28th April), but the incessant rain up here this week has meant that Grant Street Park has already been declared unplayable.
They will instead host Deveronside at Deveronvale - virtually conceding home advantage. Princess Royal Park has an excellent-quality surface so hopefully that fixture will survive.

This constant downpour has surely hampered City's chances of getting the Bught work completed ahead of the already-tight May 13th deadline...

Do any of you gents know on which part of the Bught this new pitch is being placed ?
Knowing the layout quite well I would assume on what I classed as the Icerink pitch when I went, at southernmost part of complex by Bught Drive ?
Such a shame they could not get on with the shinty crowd.

Bad news for Inverness City as they can't meet the 13th May deadline for developing a suitable pitch at Bught Park. It would appear nothing at all has happened yet http://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/...-to-Division-Two.htm.

They now face demotion to Division Two rather than the promotion to the North Superleague they were on course to.

Deadline was always going to be tight, but it seems bizarre that they never even got going at all !
Here's hoping they do bother working on it over the summer, to try to get it ready for next season, albeit for Div 2, else it's more having to be cuckoos until the cricketers hand back NMP.

The paper's article is unclear how their demotion effects others' relegation from Div 1 / promotion from Div 2.

But (if City do finish in the top two) that there'd be a playoff between whoever finishes 3rd and second-bottom of the Super (which is already known to be Forres Thistle, who finished their season on 28th April) seems strange to me. Why not just say that if City are in the top 2, the 3rd-placed goes up instead ? LEAGUE RULEBOOK STATES PLAYOFF IF ONE OF THE PROMOTED IS INELIGIBLE

Glentanar v City is still to be scheduled after 26th May (surely that should be added to the midweek fixtures of 22nd May, despite the journey length). SCHEDULED FOR SAT 2nd JUNE - TRAVEL (UNDERSTANDABLY) DEEMED TOO FAR MIDWEEK So whether that playoff is needed or not won't be known until into June... over a month after Forres Thistle thought they had done for this season ! FORRES THISTLE HAVE APPARENTLY BEEN KEPT INFORMED THROUGHOUT

And what would that playoff be - a one-off at a neutral venue half-way between the two, or H & A so two more fixtures? And given that Forres Thistle's opponents could be one of the Aberdeen clubs, does that mean too far for midweek, so two more weekends, so even deeper into June...
ONE-OFF AT A NEUTRAL VENUE

An article of clarification is needed on the SJFA North's site.

This could create some June fixtures for those of us who are that way inclined though !
NO GUARANTEE INVERNESS CITY WILL FINISH IN THE TOP TWO ANYWAY OF COURSE, SO THIS PLAYOFF MAY NOT BE NEEDED.

Inverness City will be at least 2nd.
They could win the division if they win their last game next Saturday at Glentanar.

But Deveronside's ground doesn't satisfy the North Super entry criteria, so there will NOT be an extra-fixture playoff. Forres Thistle escape relegation.

Deveronside proposed a season-long groundshare or playing all games away, whilst working on their ground to meet the criteria. Both which were rejected.

Inverness City won the Division One Championship on goal difference, following their 3-2 away win at Glentanar today.

Their reward is relegation to Division Two.

Inverness City and Deveronside appealed, and won (kind of) :

Inverness City will not go down to Div 2, but won't go up to the Prem either - they'll stay in Div 1.
Given that there is only one promotion place from Div 2, the rest of that division's teams are no doubt breathing a sigh of relief - it could well have been a one-horse race next season had City been in Div 2.
But Nairn St Ninian, who as Div 2 runners-up would have replaced City in Div 1, will therefore remain in Div 2 for next season, with only champions Portgordon Vics being promoted.

Deveronside have to make the necessary ground improvements this summer to bring Canal Park up to Superleague standards, and only then could there be a playoff vs Forres Thistle.
So that (possible) playoff won't be until Saturday 4th August.
It would be one match at a neutral venue.

Deja vu from last spring when there'd reportedly been a green light given to go ahead with work at Bught Park, but nothing was ever started, never mind finished by the tight deadline.

There's an article in the P&J today (Friday 26th Oct 2012) :
There'll be a Highland Council planning meeting on Tuesday 30th Oct which will rule on a proposal for a ground at Bught Park.
The proposal has been granted for recommendation by the council's south area planning manager.
It includes erection of changing rooms, a perimeter fence, and a spectator rail.

The cricket season is done, so City ought to be back at the Northern Meeting Park after their usual nomadic start to the season. But :
They were fined £100 by the SJFA for switching last week's Junior Cup fixture from the Northern Meeting Park to Nairn St Ninian's ground.
It is not clear to me whether that was just because NMP was a puddle, or whether there are deeper issues - on 18th October one of the City players posted elsewhere :

"There are going to be no games at the NMP this season!
There is a committee meeting tonight but I guess the only way forward is to play all our games away until the Bught is ready, whenever that will be."

So if any of you haven't yet got NMP ticked, you may now have missed it.
Or not...

Even this Bught Park solution will be temporary - they have only been given it for 5 years.

Inverness City finally got a signed lease from Highland Council in their hands today (Wed 20th March).
Work at Bught can start next week.
Their new ground should be ready for the start of next season.

Ironically, having had previous promotions to the top flight blocked due to lack of own ground, now that they'll have one they might not win promotion - they lost at East End on Saturday and now trail them and New Elgin.
