No mention of Winterbourne switching. I thought Falmouth had applied for promotion? Are Buckland looking to switch even if they dont get promotion?

Lets say for example one from Gloucester County, Warminster, Buckland, Wincanton and one from Somerset County came up.

Thats 5 up, that would be 19 in prem if 2 go down, 2 up and no one goes to Southern League and Buckland promoted.

4 up and 2 down in first to take the league to 21?? Maybe they could promote 3 from 1st to make 20 and 20?

Lets assume Hallen or Merthyr Town go up...

Wouldn't it be more sensible to have no relegation from the Premier Division and promote the top 3 in Division One alongside Buckland Athletic/Falmouth Town to bring the Premier back up to 22.

That would leave Division One with 16 - so if three come up - i.e. Wincanton Town, Cheddar and Tuffley Rovers and Warminster Town switch over from the Wessex - that'd be 20 in Division One!

I really don't see any reason whatsoever to relegate anyone from Division One. Minehead wanted to leave last season - Devizes, Wellington and Shepton Mallet to my knowledge have no such desire to leave the league! Elmore I don't know so much!!

No, 20 is plenty at that level.

Yes in Richard Rundle Land - but the norm for Step 5 divisions is 22.

(and if these restrucring plans go ahead the WL better get used to operating with more clubs again!).

But your question was would it be more "sensible" to operate with 22. Not what is happening in other leagues, especially those with smaller footprints.

The Western League hasn't operated the Premier Division with 22 clubs since 2006-07 and I can't really see any benefit to increasing to that number again any time soon, FA restructure or no FA restructure.

Sensible in so much as it avoids the unnecessary relegation of Devizes/Wellington who don't want to leave the league and shouldn't have to if there is space for them imo.

There shouldn't really be a problem, should there?

Currently the league is operating 18/19. If a team is promoted to the Southern League without one coming back, that leaves us with 17/19. Promote three from Division One & the SWP (or relegate 1 and promote 4, I don't care) and you're at 20/16, leaving plenty of space for new entrants in a 20/20 league without having to relegate anyone.

Or have I missed something really obvious here?

20 is plenty, only the FA and empire builders want more !

A bad winter, county, league and FA competitions and 20 becomes a problem getting in - 22 becomes a nightmare

Especially where the travel distances are increased and the re-scheduled games are more and more travel for midweek games

I'm with Richard - 20 is enough !

Re: [swjoduk] Toolstation Western League applicants [In reply to] Can't Post or

Of the seven applicants, a maximum of four can be accepted following standard promotion rules and regulations.

It's a case of either/or between Cheddar (nailed-on) and Ashton & Backwell. Wincanton Town are by no means assured of a top-2 finish. Either/or again between Cribbs Friends Life (also nailed-on), Tuffley Rovers, Bristol Academy (snowball's chance). While Buckland Athletic are favourites to finish 2nd.

Personally, I don't think Wincanton will reach 2nd. spot, so for me it's Buckland to replace Hallen in the Premier, plus two promotions from the Fist, while hoping Barnstaple don't resign.

In the First, Cadbury Heath & Melksham to go up, Cribbs & Cheddar to replace hem, plus Warminster transferred back from Wessex.

That should give a 20/20 for next season.

I would have thought their current ground isnt far off. It has lights and some covered spectator facilities. Maybe not 50 seats though

It's not enclosed. You can watch games from the road, so I don't think it would get the grading.

The road is behind the fence, so you could argue it's enclosed. After all, there's quite a few examples of grounds where you can see in from the outside thanks to a handily placed hillock.

I was there last week and frankly its not passable in its current state. Only two sided, no proper covered standing although its evident that they are putting up a small seated stand. Good support though, but as they are proudly displaying their intended nearby ground moving plans, the bare minimum is what they seem to be doing. But they surely must open up the other side to spectators.

Everyone down here believes Cheddar is approved. I havent visited it so dont ask me how...I heard Buckland and Cribbs would also go up.

Absolutely nothing heard about Warminsters application apparently wont be known until League AGM (imminent?).

There was a rumour 3rd place in the D1 would also go up to make up the numbers though. Havent added it up myself. Does Buckland coming up affect that?

Merthyr are promoted.

As usual (I am almost as boring on this as others are on "Northern League clubs refusing promotion") NOBODY is coming down. At this rate the Western League will become the Outer Bristol Suburban League...oh well, at least Calne would have a chance of winning it then....Cool
