Music in Soaps Can't Post or Reply Privately

I don't watch Soaps. Honest. But tonight I was forced to and I was amazed and pleasently surprised to hear New Order's 'Elegia' during Eastenders, and to a lesser extent Blondie's 'Denis' in Corrie.

"But tonight I was forced to"

I'd like some background info on that one....

The last time I saw EastEnders, there
was a dog called Willie in it and as for
Coronation Street, Annie Walker was
still in charge of the boozer.

Now, Eldorado.....

Me and the wife had a deal, I'd sit through the 2 hours of Soaps as long as I could watch a film of my choice afterwards. Currently watching 'Benidorm', so not getting my hopes up on the movie front.

Shame it wasn't the superior 'Presence' (even more so 'Contact In Red Square') but then some bands are often known only for the popular, big-selling single that wasn't as good as some of their lesser hits. The Buzzcocks are another case 'Ever Fallen In Love' is trounced by 'What Do I Get' but who knows the latter that only the former knows...

What do you mean, I'm taking the thread off topic?

I'm very familiar with Blondie's other stuff, I just happen to love 'Denis'. Same with The Buzzcocks, 'Ever Fallen In Love' is one of my all-time favourites. Just a matter of personal taste I guess.

I'm forced to endure Absolute Radio at work. Gotta be the worst station ever despite it being aimed at people like me and playing music that I thought I liked but they play the same tracks over and over. Out of all the music The Undertones have made why do they insist on playing Teenage Kicks all the time? I hate the song now as I've heard it too many times. Same as Ever Fallen In Love.
One thing I learnt today regarding Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone is a cover. It was originally recorded by The Nerves who'd I've never heard of before.
A thousand apologies for continuing to take this thread off topic.
I don't know anything about the music in soaps although we were discussing the Corrie theme at the football club last night. Turns out the original performers got something like 6 each for recording it.

I wasn't being critical, WC, merely pointing out that some bands are often known for one big hit despite all their other works. I suspect whoever chose 'Denis' for East Enders might well have forgotten the others (if ever he or she knew them).

You say that but my feeling is Denis is less well known than some of their later stuff. In my mind Atomic, Hanging On The Telephone, Heart Of Glass and Sunday Girl are better known amongst the general public. I could be wrong.

@Whiskey Coates

Why didn't you go down the pub and leave her to watch in peace?

Have you even been to my local? 'The Friendly Forester' has never been a more inappropriate name for a pub.

I know you weren't. I guess I can be a bit touchy sometimes. It was 'Denis', 'Ever fallen in Love' and the likes that influenced me in my youth. I can remember my music teacher flatly refusing to play 'Orgasm Addict' in class one day. And he also blew a gasket after we got him to play 'Frigging in the Rigging'.

VP, certainly many may only know 'Parallel Lines' onwards but those who saw Blondie emerge a year or two earlier have probably forgotten 'Presence'. Test your friends!

PS I still have both singles, played to death at many a party...

No it's not. But it's only a 2 minute walk down the road. It's handy and it's right next to the Co-Op. It's a 'Sizzling' pub.

Sounds wonderful....
There are many peeps who don't usual their nearest pub.
I have two, both withing a three minute walk but never use
them and would rather walk/stagger the extra mile to the
one next to the station.
(waits for bollocking for going totally off topic)

I suffer from panic attacks and might need to get home quickly Smile

The next nearest pub is about 20 minutes away. But The Friendly Forester is the best of the bunch.

What was the original topic again?

Not sure, something about Kylie getting her tits out on Neighbours,
with the rest of the cast singing 'I should be so lucky'.
