I, like most people outside Stamford Bridge, have no love lost for JT, but I do think the whole thing is being sensationalised at every turn. Pretty well all I've heard in response to the ban is how ludicrous it is. But none of these people are able to suggest how long it should be except to say JT should be banned for life or some such nonsense. It's his first offence for one thing (as far as I know) and while the race issue is important, it still has to fit into the legal and disciplinary structures somehow. It seems that a lot of people think that if about race then it's so important that rules shouldn't apply.

So a racist comment from the stands leads to a life ban from the ground, while a racist comment on the pitch only gets 4 games?

The difference between the two is that only one case would have been proven in a court of law!

Amazing how teflon Rio has escaped punishment for the 'choc ice' comment, but then again as we all know 'racist' abuse only applies one way!

Slightly concerning that of the 3 words alledgedly uttered the one that caused 'offence' is the only one that's actually true, whereas it's perfectly acceptable in the FA's eyes to use the other two freely and escape censure Crazy

Rio Ferdinand was fined �45,000 for laughing at a comment by made by someone else. I hope I never 'escape punishment' to that degree.
