Looking at seeing that great showbiz legend (at the New Theatre) that is Count Arthur Strong later in the month.

Is the TV series better than the Radio one?.

Surely the next Doctor Who.

No, the TV series is a bit stilted. Still funny despite Rory Kinnear...

Re: [Fanatic] your top 5 best and worst comedians [In reply to] Can't Post or

Of all the comedians listed in the last few days I find very few funny, I agree most of the worst ones are bad but so are many of peoples favourites. People who have to shout or swear to get their act across are not funny. Most are one or two trick ponies and with so many media and social network outlets most if not all of them have acts that are soon repetitive, stale and boring. Thankfully though we have got away from the "The Comedians" type acts of the 1970's.

In fact most entertainment seems to feel boring and repetitive these days, I thought it was me but many I speak to say the same. The advent of 100's of TV channels seems to have made many forms of entertainment boring as you end with wall to wall versions of the same thing endlessly.

Without sounding crude from Porn to Sport via Baking everything is there at the touch of a button or keyboard.

Whenever I am a bit pissed off and need a laugh then I normally turn to Youtube and try to find the last minute own goal at Luton the other week against Blackpool.
If that doesn't work then any stand up by Louie CK is superb while going back a few decades, try looking for Foster Brooks and his drunken roasts. Pure genius.
Have seen Rhod Gilbert live a few times and Jon Richardson but back 40 years ago at the old Baileys club in Watford was the great Tommy Cooper who I almost wet myself laughing at.
But two top all that.....the great genius that was Laurel and Hardy.

Retired in 2013 according to Wiki. I saw him on stage some time in the early 80s, before anyone had heard of him. He turned an initially sceptical audience into one that was falling about laughing. Had to think on his feet in the early part of the set, but once he was in his stride he was very good.

I remember him, very under-rated

As for the modern era, very few comedians make me chortle.

Stevie Riks is pretty good and I will admit to liking Mrs. Brown's Boys (yeah, I know a lot of people hate it but I like it and not afraid to admit so).

Really sad to hear the news that Sean Hughes has died, at the all-too-young age of just 51.

I remember seeing him play a small gig in Swansea in the late 1980s, probably at the unfortunately short-lived Swansea Fringe Festival (probably about the same time I first saw Mark Steel perform - both Crystal Palace fans). His performances on ‘Sean’s Show’ are still really funny and hold their own even now - subtle, witty, clever and properly funny - a real antidote to a lot of the shouty, aggressively belittling stuff from many comics in the early 1990s. He also had a passionate taste in music and was also good to listen to on his radio show on BBC 6Music back in its more ramshacked days. So sad that he has died so young.

This is a clip of the final five minutes of the final episode of 'Sean's Show', from December 1993, starring legends as great as Robert Smith and The Cure, Chris Coleman, Gareth Southgate, Chris Armstrong, and... er... Andy Woodman!

Anyone know what match the goal is scored in? It looks like Manchester United conceding at Wembley, but I don't think it's Crystal Palace scoring it.

There was an obituary in last Saturdays programme to Sean, with many fellow comedians passing comments, including Mark Steel. I saw Sean at Stoke City v Palace once, in the early 90s I'd say, dark glasses not fooling me or anyone I suspect. I liked the fact it said he grew up in Ireland and didn't like mainstream so refused to follow Manure or Livpuddle like most Irish people do, and liked the name and colours of Palace, so that was his team, fair enough!

As TheWavendonian keeps telling me, they always go in threes... First Sean Hughes, then Keith Baron, and now the sad news that Rodney Bewes has died at the age of 79.

Of all the comedy series written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads' is my very favourite, even more than 'Porridge'. James Bolam's character of Terry often got the best lines, but Rodney Bewes' timing as Bob was always impeccable.

As Danny Baker tweeted, "Rodney Bewes has died. What a dreadful bit of news. Se ya, kidda."

For some bizarre reason I have only just discovered this thread.
For what it is worth, my nominations are;

Best
Richard Digance
Jimmy Carr
Kenn Dodd
Arthur Smith
John Richardson

Worst
Stan Boardman
Stan Boardman
John Bishop
Sarah Millican
Russel Brand

I Know that Boardman is listed twice, the reason being is that he is twice as bad as anyone else.
