What purpose increasing step4 divisions to 24 teams. Can't Post or

If it is more than 'unfounded rumour' that is.

It's been bugging me tbh.

Why the step4's only?

I have had a lightbulb moment which may give a reasonable possible (err) reason for this idea.

If step4 relegation were increased to four places per division, then a 12-division step5 arrangement could provide two promotion places per league. Play-offs on the way perhaps?

I'm not sure why you'd need step 4 to have 24 teams per division for that. I'd like to see how true the rumours are because I cannot see any (proper) reason for it. The only reason I can think of is to save clubs from relegation (short sighted but also entirely possible) and increase the number of openings per team to increase revenue.

when it was discussed last season Isthmian were the only league in favour. it would as likely increase most teams costs through the extra travel to more away games then it brings revenue from 2 extra home games. I expect most step 4 clubs would prefer 8 divisions of 18 rather than 6 divisions of 24. That is still easy for relegation/promotion, 3 down from each 8 step 4 = 24 teams and 2 up from each new step 5 set up of 12 divisions = 24 teams

I think it's a stupid idea, even in the Step 4 league with the smallest footprint it does't make sense because two extra midweek home games won't increase revenue.

If the FA want four down from each step 4 league, it can be done without increasing the size of divisions. It's four down from each of the 22-team step 3 leagues. As I've said before, the only level where 24-team divisons would increase revenue for all of the teams is Step 2.

Play-off at Step 5 would be a farce. There's too many teams who can't/won't be promoted to make it work properly.

I also think 24 team divisions at Step 4 is stupid. However I think that play offs at Step 5 would be a good idea.

I would relegate 3 from each Step 4 league. Each eligible Step 4 Champion would get automatic promotion. Eligible Runners Up would play off for the remaining spots. It would even do away with the need to reduce the number of Step 5 leagues.

There are already too many midweek games at this level struggling to make three figures through the gate. Sooner we go 1-2-4-8 and smaller divisions the better.

There are more step 4 clubs looking for a three figure gate on Saturday afternoon now
