...the last sporting event in England to host a crowd of over 100,000?

I'll guess the 122,000 at this year's Silverstone Grand Prix? http://thef1times.com/news/display/03927

There's two holes knocked into my argument straight away.. I was browsing t'other day and I think it was the rugby league final replay in the mid-60s which hit over three figures and just caught my eye.
Motor racing didn't cross my mind (bores me shitless) but getting ready for a few days in le Touquet next July to see the Tax Free Missile do his stuff...

The crowd at the London Marathon must be well over 100000

Don, my immediate assumption was that you were referring to an event in an enclosed arena rather than one which takes place over an area measured in miles...

Cup final attendances at Wembley were usually recorded as a round 100,000 but who knows what the real figures were – and there was of course the White Horse final where at least 20,000 more gate-crashed.

The West Ham speedway stadium (below, with link if you cannot view the image) had a capacity of 120,000 but the official highest attendance there is apparently recorded as 83,000.

Paying spectators :

Apparently day one at this years Badminton had an attendance in excess of 120,000. Silverstone raceday attendance 122,000; 2011 Grand National a record 153,853 but that's for three days

Freebies :

Over a million watched the London Marathon (?)and 250,000 the Boat Race

All taken from attached Price Waterhouse report, so bound to be right Crazy
