Don, my immediate assumption was that you were referring to an event in an enclosed arena rather than one which takes place over an area measured in miles... Cup final attendances at Wembley were usually recorded as a round 100,000 but who knows what the real figures were – and there was of course the White Horse final where at least 20,000 more gate-crashed. The West Ham speedway stadium (below, with link if you cannot view the image) had a capacity of 120,000 but the official highest attendance there is apparently recorded as 83,000.
