I must have been living in cave... Can't Post or Reply Privately

...because I have only just found out about the great FA Vase final attendance balls up of 2007.
During a quick lurk, I've discovered the AFC Totton v Truro crowd was upped from 27,000+
to 36.262 - but only 13 months later.
The understatement of the year from an FA Council member: "It's taken a while to sort out
but all the figures have since been re-checked and the new figure is correct."
13 months hmmmmmmmm?
Still, I expect you lot already knew that.

In the 2010 Conference Play-off they forgot to add in the middle teir, though it only took them a few days to realise they had missed it out.

Yes, I remember that well. Was at the game and no attendance was announced,
which got me wondering...
Also, the 1992 Trophy final crowd was seasonally adjusted a few weeks later. A lot
of record books still list it as being 27,000+ but this was amended a few weeks later
to 32,000+.
Obviously forgot to add Roy McDonugh's mates.. Cool

The Truro v Totton Vase final attendance was subject to an investigation of "allegedly" missing tickets that had "allegedly" been supplied to Truro City.

"Allegedly" Truro sold the tickets, hence the larger attendance, but had originally told the FA they were unsold and would be returned, and then "Allegedly" they could not return them as they had gone missing

I attended quite a few Wembley finals through in work in the 90s and there would
be many a muttering in the press box when attendances were announced.
Being a frequent user, plus the stadium's symmetry, it wasn't that hard to work
out roughly what the crowd was but some were certainly were up for question.
On a few occasions judging by the space left, you would need to cremate the
so-called missing fans to fit them in.

My first three matches at Wembley were England internationals in the early 1980's and in all three cases, the attendance given to the media at the time was rounded off to the nearest thousand. Is there some website where the exact attendances for such matches are shown?

Most of the early Trophy years' attendances are given as ending in 000.
Which if announced today would be viewed upon with deep suspicion.
I was at Wembley in 1970 and there was a lot more than the 28,000 given.
Boosted by another 500 or so Man City fans who arrived midway through
the first-half after getting back from Vienna from the Cup Winners' Cup final
four days earlier. These were the days of uneasyJet and coaches R us for
European travel.
Only just under 8,000 at the City final.. how times have changed.

That's awful - it should end in 078 like it does at the Emirates, every week! Tongue
