I've always thought what a happy coincidence it was that this occurred very close to the town of Battle.

So why isn't it called the Battle of Battle then?

Probably coz there was no village there until after the Battle.
Like a lot of managers, Harold's team got their arse kicked following
the euphoria of winning at Stamford Bridge.

Also, they must have felt beaten before they'd started facing up against someone called William the Conqueror.

With men with one foot on a fallen log, smoking a pipe and looking far too camp for my liking.

Might have been interesting if Harald Hardradas team had prevailed in the semis and then went on too take Guillaumes (Williams) lads in the final. Haralds bunch would/should have been fresher than Harolds side - as theyd enjoyed home advantage in semis, where as the final was effectively a nuetral venue for all concerned. Of course injuries being carried and not just match-fitness would be an unknown factor, although you might feesably presume quiet a high mortality rate had Harald managed too edge it at Stamford Bridge.

I wonder if there were any Battle Ground Hoppers then?
Would have been a great double tick - Stamford Bridge and Hastings.

He was called William the Bastard before the battle...

Nowadays he'd be called William the Offspring of Unmarried Partners!

Hardly a name to inspire fear...

I would like to cast doubt on the claims made by the poster Ghost of Senlac.
Firstly, his claims to be a ghost are almost certainly untrue. Ghosts are not immortal, and tend to deteriorate after around 400-500 years, sometimes less. Therefore we must draw the conclusion that our friend is a solid and physical entity, composed of flesh and blood, just like you and me.

It is also doubtful whether he was ever at Senlac Hill, as he claims. See www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15305391

I'm surprised you're interested in this Chris as, to my knowledge, there was no scroll avalable for the battle, probably due to the size of the squads on both sides.

I always found it strange that most TV programmes about supposed Ghosts were shown on Living TV.

Maybe the original poster is a Medium, in which case he would be in the minoroty on this board.

Are ghosts nocturnal by nature? Most films about said subject always seem to be filmed at night.
And why do aliens always seem to turn up in the middle of the deep South in the States.
Never heard of one appearing in the public bar of the Church Elm on a Sunday afternoon, just
as some old Doris is letting her 40DD's swing after a pole dancing session.
Then again, perhaps they deserve more credit after travelling x amount of light years to get here.
