The Editors Manual plus Questions Thread Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Firstly, how to become an Editor?

Go to any league page, click the big red button and fill out the small form. For the time being please select ONE league only, you will be able to edit all the Divisions within that league. If you want to edit more than one league that's great... you will need to send me a PM from your forum account and I will sort that out.

Secondly, what can an Editor DO?

You can do three things:
1. add a fixture to the league you are editing
2. add a result / attendance to a fixture that is already there
3. add a fixture plus result/attendance for a game that has already been played but hadn't already been added as a fixture

Thirdly, how do I do it?
I think when you log in as an Editor this is going to be self explanatory. It's designed to be used by anyone with no technical knowledge... but I will run through it anyway.....
Log in to your Editor account
Select Fixtures/Results from the top menu bar
Now select a date from the calendar... your chosen date will be highlighted yellow
Now choose a Division you want to edit from the choices available.
A row of drop down boxes will appear with the teams for your division already loaded into them
Simply add the kick off time plus home and away teams for the date you selected.
ONE THING TO ADD HERE: please don't enter fixtures more than 2 or 3 weeks in advance. The reason for this is twofold....
a) fixtures are listed in one long list, I will have this changed so that only the current month is displayed with the option to choose other months and...
b) we all know how often non league fixtures change... it is pointless putting a whole seasons fixtures in place at this stage and its more work to edit them than if they weren't there at all.

If the match has already been played then you can ignore the kick off time and add the score / attendance aswell in the boxes provided.

If you are adding a score to a fixture already there then you will see it listed in 'Past fixtures with no result' so just added it there.

I really do think it's simple and takes just a few minutes. I hope you will agree.

If you have any problems with or questions about the Editor system please post them here in this thread as it could be relevant to other Editors also.

Many Thanks

Steve

No Big Red button on the Bedfordshire County Football League page? I presume they are being added to pages gradually.

Also happy to edit fixtures and results down to Division Four to give all divisions some exposure as well as my team being in Div Two and others lower down issuing programmes whilst only 1 out of Prem & Div 1 does.

Yes I haven't got around to all leagues yet but the big red button on any league goes to the same place so use the one on the Conference page.

Slight hitch in adding Editors at the moment, I'm hoping to have it sorted shortly. Thanks to those that have signed up so far, will get the details sent out as soon as the software is fixed.

Cheers

Hi Steve.

Looking good so far. I've just added the opening day's fixtures for NWCFL Premier Division. However, the date came up wrong. I tried 6th August, but they've all appeared on 14th August.

Just in case I'd entered the date wrongly, I deleted them all, and started again. But once again, they've appeared as 14th August games.

It is easy to use, though. :)

later edit - I've just logged out, and looked at the fixtures without being logged in, and they do appear correctly as 6th August. So it seems there's a simple bug in how the date is displayed for an editor.

Just one niggle though. Why can't fixtures be displayed with home teams in alphabetical order?

further edit - Having entered some more fixtures, it appears that fixtured just entered are always shown with the date of 14th August, but those already on the system have the correct date. So it's perfectly useable, once I realise what's happening.

I see what you mean having just tested it myself. Although it displays the correct date on the site itself, in the admin it displays the wrong one. 14 August is currently the oldest fixture so I think it is taking that date. I think I will hold off adding more editors until I can get that fixed as you're right, it's confusing.

Will add sorting home teams alphabetically to the improvements list. They are probably sorted by ID number now so that should be a simple fix.

I'm glad you find it easy to use, I tried to design it that way so that's encouraging and your comment hopefully will encourage a few more editors.

Steve

I've added fixtures for several leagues. Easy to do - the only problems were of my own making.

For those dealing with more than one league/division, fixtures on the Admin page for a particular date are mixed up - ie they are not sorted by league.

sample:
SJWC1 Larkhall Thistle v Shettleston 14:00
AYRS Darvel v Troon 14:00
WSP Irvine Meadow XI v Arthurlie 14:00
WS1 Ardrossan Winton Rovers v Lanark United 14:00
WSP Kirkintilloch Rob Roy v Clydebank 14:00
WS1 Dairy Thistle v East Kilbride Thistle 14:00
WSP Pollok v Beith 14:00
WSP Ashfield v Cumnock 14:00
WSP Auchinleck Talbot v Kilbirnie Ladeside 14:00

Would be possible to sort by league and then by home team?

Hi again, Steve.

I assume the answer to this question will be that it can't be done, but I'll ask it anyway.

We have one league game coming up in mid August which will be played on a neutral ground. Is there any way that the location of the match can be shown?

I have been entering Conference fixtures. I have input them in date and alphabetical order, but when viewed on the web site as a visitor the games are listed in date order but not alphabetical.

Any reason? or am I doing anything wrong?

Hi,

Silly question but is there a list available showing which leagues have editors assigned to them already?

Thanks,

I don't think it's a silly question but no, there isn't such a list.

The general idea is not to assign one editor to each league and consider it job done. It's more that anyone can edit a league that they are particularly interested in and maybe have a few 'Super-Editors' or whatever who can trawl the site and update any league. I already have one such 'Super-Editor' who has volunteered and there is myself of course.

We've put the site online with only 1 or 2 weeks to go before most leagues kick off so it's going to be tough at first. I think this time next season when the main site is more established we will have a lot more editors in place and all leagues will be updated a lot quicker. Many hands make light work or whatever the phrase is. This is why I need to get the word out about the site, so we can get many more people not just looking at the content but actively contributing aswell.

Cheers

D.
I do the Surrey Elite.
As you did the Combined Counties on here last season I left that in case you wanted to do it again. If you don't then I'll take it on for you.
I've also offered to do the Aldershot & District, SCIL(W) and SSEC but haven't had the go ahead for those yet (did you see my PM Steve?). I'm happy for anyone else to do those leagues but, if no-one else wants them then I'm your man!

Anyone else who signed up as an editor had this problem and if so, how did you rectify it.

I go to the admin screen, put in my email address and password but all that happens is the last part of the email address disappears and the password box becomes blank rather than any option to edit.

The first couple of times I tried this I had not noticed the 'Fixtures & Results' Box in the top right hand corner of the screen. When I clicked on this box it allowed me into the site.

I've added fixtures for the Western League. Now that I've been added for the Somerset County League, I don't see Western League in my list. Also, how do I change the details of fixtures I've already entered (kick-off times have changed)?

The only way I managed to do this was to delete the fixture, and then re-insert it.

I entered my first week of fixtures with a 3:00 kick off time, which I had to change later to 15:00.

Sorry, should be back now.

Yes, you cannot change a kick off time, you will need to delete and re-do the fixture as already said.

Thanks
