Good numbers in the Lincs league this season then. seems the league is getting stronger year by year.

with all this madness going on with the mysterious step 7 status i'm getting confused as to where each league actually stands.

i know only 2 leagues have step 7 status this season, but i know there were also leagues who were applying for step 7 status (this league being one of them), so where does this put these leagues?

have all the leagues, regardless of whether they were step 7 last season or applied for it this season, being given provisional step 7 status? or not?

And what does this "provisional" status actually mean??

I know i might seem a bit slow asking this but im just getting confused. Help please!

It is happening in a lot of places, common sense and lack of funds is making it happen. Which in the long run will be good for local football, the more local the game the more chance of people wanting to watch it. No point travelling 50, 60 or 70 miles at nearly £6 a gallon to play in front of a few men and a couple of dogs..

The Lincolnshire League did not achieve step 7 officially or provisionally. As yet no reasons why given only assumptions from the League Secretary it may be due to number of "Reserve" teams that participate in the league as the facilities in the league continue to get better and better.

A number of clubs have really looked to progress forward both on and off the pitch.

Last years champions - Boston United reserves will be favourites again but the teams to watch may well be newly formed Skegness United who have made some key signings and you can not rule out Cleethorpes Town who have shown alot of ambition and progress in the last 2years and ended last season with a 24 match unbeaten record including a cup final win.

It will be another tough season for Sleaford Town Reserves and possibly Grimsby Borough Reserves though until these teams move on and further new teams come into the league, the league will have to work very hard to gain Step 7 if the unofficial reason of too many reserve teams is the reason why.

With the league now being recognised now by the Lincolnshire FA after many years of it being ignored by them, this can only help the leagues aims longer term.

Does it matter? Let them in and encourage more and better competition.

I don't think this relates to "reserve" teams as such but step 7 status, you can only achieve the new step 7 status if you have less than 25% (?) of yours sides that are reserve sides, though it seems if you call a reserve side something else they don't count as a reserve side even though they are a reserve side !. What has happened in the Wilts Co in the last couple of seasons is we have a load of "newly" formed clubs appearing at step 7 playing on the grounds of existing step 5 and 6 clubs who have dropped their reserve sides.

Till it comes to the crunch when "reserves" will often field a whole load of first teamers to clinch promortion or avoid relegation.

I think the words you should be using are DISTORT competition.

In my experience, bringing in "ringers" happens just as much where the teams involved are first teams as much as when they are reserves.

The Matlock & District League have a simple rule to prevent the above happening...

RESERVE TEAMS OF MEMBER CLUBS SHALL NOT FIELD AT ANY ONE TIME MORE THAN 2 PLAYERS WHO HAVE PLAYED IN 3 OR MORE GAMES FOR THEIR FIRST TEAM OR TEAMS THAT PLAY IN A HIGHER DIVISION.

OFFENDING CLUBS WILL HAVE 3 POINTS DEDUCTED.

Seems a good rule to me, maybe all lower Leagues ought to adopt it?

Skellingthorpe PFC have left the league.

Can anyone help with their current whereabouts - have they folded or gone to another league?

Not listed in the FA Full Time find a club - so presumption is that they have folded or renamed.

Unfortunately folded and players have dispersed, a few of them have signed for Lincoln Moorland Railway reserves
