Last season we had a step 5 Kent League (inc one club from Essex), no step 6 league, a step 7 Kent County League and two step 8 divisions east and west.

We now have a step five county league (minus the club from Essex), a step 6 county league, a step 7 county division and a step 8 county division., is that really progress, why does east and west not just come in at step 7 ?.

It looks as if Westerham who finished bottom of division 2 west have dropped into the Sevenoaks & District League.

Sevenoaks, Greenhill and Phoenix Academy are believed to be the reserve sides of Sevenoaks Town, Canterbury City and Phoenix Sports respectively. Deal Town Rangers will field a senior side for the first time, previously just ran junior sides. Is it Eltham Town (as on Full-time) or actually Eltham Palace in the Premier Division?

Premier resigned from the County League a month or so before the season ended.

Canterbury City have their reserve team in the reserve division east. You are right about the other two.

On the county league official website the team is listed as Eltham Palace, so it's probably a typo on full-time. Eltham Town play in the South London Alliance.

the problem is 5, 6 & 8 not a county div at step 7 which is what we have in most of the country !

Sorry but I have to say, no we don't please don't start all that again. Time and time again you raise the same point and are constantly the actual facts do not confirm this fact.

Kent and Essex when you add in parts of London which they cover have more than enough population for a step five league, much larger than the UCL or Sussex County. The travelling in Kent from one end to the other is something like 80 miles, which is the same as in the UCL - Northampton to Boston.

If we are not careful the Kent County League will soon become a west Kent and south east London League.

I wonder if some people's perception of distances in the south is caused by the famous 'vertical-horizontal illusion'.

Some will get a shock looking at http://www.mikeavery.co.uk/...4%20in%202011-12.htm for step 4. Other than the Southern League S/W all the average return journies in the other 5 divisions are under 100 miles. By step 7 return journies should really only be 40 or 50 on average. Would it matter if we had 40, 50 or 60 step 7 leagues as long as everyone was happy, everyone could afford to play (and travel) at that level and it stopped clubs folding ?.

Off course it would not matter how many leagues we had at Step 7, provided, as you say, everyone (i.e. the clubs involved) were happy, everyone could afford to play (and travel) at that level and it stopped clubs folding ?.
As someone on another thread said we do sometimes forget that football at non-league level should be run for the benefit of the clubs. Sadly the FA, by imposing rules on leagues in an attempt to produce a "tidy" structure, seem to have forgotten that somewhere along the line.
It seems to me that the situation at step 7 is currently relatively healthy, certainly more so than at steps 4, 5 & 6. As it is the latter which have been subject to the most attention from the FA over the last decade is there a message here?
