Runcorn Town Reserves switched from the West Cheshire League to the Cheshire League only at the beginning of the last season as they thought they may suffer from the 25% reserve team rule i.e. not be allowed to compete in West Cheshire League Division One. However, AFAIK the rule is not more than 25% of a Step 7 division can contain reserve teams so I'm not sure why they left as only Marine, Vauxhalls and Cammell Laird have their reserves in Division One.

As Secretary of the club I can provide the exact reason as to why we moved, and its not quite as straight forward as you make out. As you mentioned there is a rule which states that "No more than 25% of Division One can be Reserve Teams" which equates to four clubs. This had nothing to do with our decision.

However the league put forward a proposed rule to clubs at the 2010 AGM that "No more than 25% of Division Two can be Reserve Teams (except in exceptional circumstances)".

This set major alarm bells ringing for us, as our reserves were in Division Three. Division Two already had four reserve teams in it, so if none of the existing reserve teams went down (none could go up as they are all reserve sides of Division One teams), we could have been "stuck" in Division Three for a long time. So we switched to the Cheshire League. The rule was subsequently adopted at the AGM.

The ironic thing is that during/after the season, Groves (Castrol Social) and Helsby from Division One resigned, as did Bronze Social and FC Pensby from Division Two. This has meant that no teams were relegated from Division Two and to make up the numbers further up their league, four were promoted from Division Three. These were the top four of Runcorn Linnets Reserves, Manor Athletic, Ashville Reserves and Marshalls Reserves.

So next season there will be SEVEN reserve teams in Division Two out of 16 teams. Hardly 25% is it!

Especially strange as when both Vauxhall Motors and Cammell Lairds left for the NWCFL, their reserve team took their place in the top division.....

The seasons that Vauxhall and Lairds went into NWCFL, their reserves finished in a promotion position in Division Two. Because their first teams were no longer in Division One, their reserves were promoted by right.

Thanks for the clarification. I'd forgotten to check before posting re: Vauxhalls & Lairds Crazy.

Seems very odd however that they've let 7 reserve sides into Division 2 this season when their own constitution doesn't permit it.

What would be interesting to know is what they deem to be exceptional circumstances? I know they've struggled with teams/clubs folding over recent seasons but still seems strange nonetheless.

I did ask this question of the league as we would have quite happily stayed in the West Cheshire League had the 25% reserve teams rule for Division Two not been proposed / passed. We feel quite hard done by over it as it is the main reason we switched to the Cheshire League.

Because Groves, Helsby, FC Pensby and Bronze Social left throughout the season, they had 14 teams in Division One and 14 in Division Two at the end of it. They fill up the league from the top, so they did not relegate anybody from Division One but promoted two. This meant that Division Two had 12 teams, which they resolved by promoting the top four from Division Three.

I was told that had all of the teams that resigned finished the season then it would have been one down, one up from Division Two/Three. Runcorn Linnets Reserves, Ashville Reserves and Marshalls Reserves only got promoted to make up the numbers higher up, despite the fact that there was already 25% reserve teams in Division Two. That is the "exceptional circumstances".

It will be interesting to me to see how they get it back down to 25% in Division Two, or will it just come over time?

Oswaldtwistle Immanuel; what great name for a football club! Are, or were, they an ex-church team?

sadly yes - the nurse theory is much better Smile cricket club still going strong in the Ribblesdale League

And, of course the Lancashire (Cricket) League club normally referred to as 'Church' is actually Church & Oswaldtwistle CC

Change to the Cheshire League constitution.

Irlam Town Youth join the 2nd Division, I think this could be Irlam 'A' who were Manchester League Division Four champions. They don't appear in the MFL tables for next season... explains the fixture delay...

So the news is out, what a load of w-----s. Mentioned this to Rivo a while ago but was only guessing. If the fixtures are further delayed it may mean their looking for 2 more teams !

Slight change in the Reserve Div (Cheshire League).
Crewe F C dropped out on Monday because the manager from last season Steve Aylward resigned and a lot of players went with him. Unfortunately the manager/Reserve players left a lot of debt from last season which will have to be found. Indeed a Level 2 coaching course paid for by the club (350) for Steve was not completed !
Catch 22 , a further 250 fine from the league will be incurred.
Lostock Gralam Res have replaced Crewe.

Tom, Div 2 fixtures for August now on Full-Time with 13 teams. Minus Irlam Town Youth.
Are there any vacancies down South for a Fixture Secretary ? Unfortunately Crewe v Whaley Bridge in midweek and not the reverse.
Must alter the FC site re fixtures for the 3rd time this close season !

Reserve Div newcomers Lostock Gralam have taken over defunct Crewe FC's fixtures.

Be very wary using Cheshire League fixtures on Full-Time. The Crewe F C game above is no more it has changed into a game v Congleton Res and moved a day ????? All in 3 days , I can understand why Whaley didn't want to come to Crewe midweek and are now at Poynton BUT why issue fixtures . Crewe F C Website already changed , wait for the next change/s. PS. Did anyone go the fixtue currently on the above ? - Whaley Bridge.

Be very wary using Cheshire League fixtures on Full-Time.

Currently showing on Full-Time for Crewe F C are -- EXCU 17/09/11 14:00 Crewe v Witton Albion. League 24/09/11 15:00 Crewe v Poynton. Cup 05/11/11 13:30 Moore United v Crewe. Cup 01/12/11 14:00 Barnton v Crewe. The Amateur Cup game on 17/09 is against Wilmslow Albion at 15-00.
The Thursday game on 01/12 is a nonsense date. On enquiring to league fixture sec should it read 03/12 the reply was NO !
