Just an observation Can't Post or Reply Privately

I was looking around Wembley on Saturday, during
moments of total boredom (ie most of the match) and
noticed that between the top and second tier, they
have the name of every team who was won the FA Cup
listed on placards.
Not sure if it is a new thing but I cannot say that I have
noticed it before but there appears to be no room for
any new additions.
Maybe they have a few in a condensed font and will have
to shift them all around to include Stoke City after next week?

I also noticed the names of the Cup winners for the first time.

My impression of the match was that one goal would win it and I always thought Darlington were the most likely to score.

My main criticism of the stadium is the awful PA system. I am a tad deaf but not bad enough to have problems with railways announcements. Wembley is awful but I suppose they went so far over budget they couldn't afford a decent PA system.

There 'Ant no place like Sussex, until you goes above, 'Cause Sussex will be Sussex and Sussex wunt be druv.

No-one would notice if they replaced Clapham Rovers name with Stoke City, and it's not as though they have any supporters to complain!

Good point and well made... What happened to them [Clapham Rovers]?
Two cup finals then obscurity - probably won't have to wait long for the answer... Sly

More to the point, whatever happened to Woolwich Arsenal, semi-finalists in 1907?

I suspect this is a temporary thing in preparation for next week.

When I was at the RL Challenge Cup final in August, they had all the previous finalists in that competition instead.

Old Etonians and Old Carthusians still exist as football clubs and the Royal Engineers are still part of the British Army, so I assume that some club officials would not be too happy to have their name removed from Wembley Stadium.
I once saw Old Carthusians play Old Harrovians at Charterhouse School in front of a crowd of 4 (1 of whom was from Canada).
Both teams have played in the FA Cup Final.

On my visits to the Urinal known as Wembley Empire Stadium I was aware of the names of all teams that ever played there hanging from the rafters as we negotiated a way to pee without adding to the lake that was always there.
Don't know about outside but was proud to see Stockport County up there on our 2nd visit.

Re: [Mishi] Just an observation [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

As for Clapham Rovers, they faded rather into obscurity. There's a newspaper reference to the club's annual dinner in 1911, and then nothing - so the club probably packed up immediately before or during WWI.

There's a Sunday league team that plays in Mitcham called Clapham Rovers, and that team does claim itself as FA Cup winners 1880. But that claim is nonsense; in no sense is it the same club.
