Soul II Soul and Caron Wheeler with "Back To Life"

(though I just missed Jason Donovan's "Sealed With A Kiss", and almost got Sonia's frighteningly titled "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You").

Just looked it up. "Aren't Friends Electric", Tubeway Army. Not brilliant but could have been a lot, lot worse. A couple of months earlier, and it could have been Bright Eyes, another month and it was Cliff with We Don't Talk Anymore.

So all things, considered, I probably struck it lucky. Actually, looking back the No 1 hit when I was born was "All I Have To Do is Dream" by the Everly brothers, which considering what else got to number 1 in 1958, is not the worst either...

.. but then, I am Sunday's Child, which if I recall the rhyme, makes me the dog's bollocks in every way. Just need to persuade the missus about that... a tough sell, admittedly.

That is superb. But I am a mere youth, and was just 14/15 at the time. I loved it then, but then went through a period when, and I'm not too proud to admit it, I tried to divorce myself from all that stuff. Then, about five years later, I thought... well stop trying the be cool, go with what you like. I'm so sorry I never got to see Slade. I could've done, just felt they weren't cool enough.

Just shows the folly of youth.
