personally do not like New Year, bah humbug; usually have a few bottles of real ale; watch Jules Holland; pop outside and watch the fireworks, then retire to bed ready for the football fix later!!

Gornal Athletic/Lower Gornal/Gornal Sports programmes always wanted; any season, any competition.

After spending Christmas visiting relatives, New Year is usually (incl this year) just the two of us staying at home with a few bottles of wine/fizz, a slap up meal, music and board games.

New Year's Eve was a bigger deal for me back in the days when I worked right through Christmas, and needed to let off steam at the end of it all. Myself and TheWavendonian worked on holiday camps on the Isle Of Wight back in the 1990s, and New Year's Eve would be the first opportunity to drink stupid amounts and then get in some football after two months solid of Christmas work (Warners Holidays start their Christmas breaks around the last week of October!)

Should anyone be interested (JimmyJazz in particular!) I've photos of TheWav dressed in a fairy costume, drunk to the gills, on New Year's Eve 1994 (though to be brutally honest I looked way way worse!) Happily, we'd both sobered up in time for Portsmouth v Burnley, which finished 2-0.

I just usually go round a couple of the local pubs with the family. Saying that, I stayed at home last year I was in a very 'couldn't be bothered' mood! That, and I couldn't see the other half at the time so was annoyed!

Steady, this is a family forum. Tongue

Personally, I couldn't care less about new year as long as I can get a game in on new years day. If I stay up past midnight to see the new year in it will be because I'm still reading and posting on here.

I am also Bah Humbug when it comes to New Year. I spent this years at my sisters with the rest of my family, a bit of a late Christmas as many of them were ill last week. We went along to a park at midnight that offers fantastic views over Bristol to watch all the fireworks.

I go to bed at my normal and get woken up at midnight by all the fireworks. Never been one for New Year despite being part Scottish.

The biggest disappointment last night was that the Jonathan Creek on BBC1 was a repeat.

Can't get a newspaper this morning as all the shops are closed.

I used to go down Sandhurst Sports Club as we could take the kids. Now the kids have grown up and doing there own thing, Family ticket at the club is now £10 to see other peoples kids running riot, Due to Medication I cannot drink more than 2 Units (1 Pint) in a day so stayed in watched repeats of Father Ted then picked my son and his Girlfriend up at 2.30 as they could not afford £60 Quoted for Taxi for 3 Mile journey (Treble normal Saturday night). All refreshed ready for Brentford v Dagenham & Redbridge today.

Earlyish night, in bed by 10:30, before the inconsiderate sods in the next street let fireworks off just after midnight. Should be a law banning people from letting fireworks off on any night other than Nov 5th and after say 10pm!Mad Rant over!

Oh, and by the way... 'Hoppy' New Year!Smile

Nearly all the shops on Oxford station were shut yesterday, only the West Cornwall Pasty shop and one other food outlet were open, M&S, W.H.Smiths, etc all shut.

In the past, New Year was always a big let down for me. Then I discovered Hashing (that's drinkers with a running problem),

but then I had to up sticks and move away from Edinburgh.

This Year instead of watching the nth repeat of some maudlin rubbish with the old man, and a showing of some over-excited yuppies in Trafalgar Square, because the celebration on Castle Hill in Edinburgh has been blown away again, went and got rat-ar*ed with some friends of the wife. Passable, because at least there was a game on close by, and I could be sober enough to get there.

After the drive back from Market Drayton yesterday, TheWavendonian used his fancy new portable telephone to track down every chip shop in Banbury, then got JimmyJazz to drive round them all, only to find most of them were closed. Still, the two we found that were open was two more than we found in all of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire combined (and no doubt Northants and Bucks on their way home to MK too).

It's not a disease you know. There are only two things inate : grasping and sucking

Strangely enough we feel the cold as well, it's not as if "we're used to it", but as I learned from the Swedes: "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing"

I can't for the life of me see what the attraction is about New Years Eve either, especially people who got to London and spend hours hanging around in the cold to get the best position for a firework display that lasts a few minutes.Unsure

Stayed in, had a few beers, watched a bit of TV, nothing I wouldn't have done normally really.
