Who scored a hat trick without anyone else touching the ball?

Robert Walpole Sealy Vidal, allegedly. And probably Roy Race too.

Correct! (Vidal that is.)

Explanation: Until 1877 the side which scored kicked off. Vidal scored, kicked off, dribbled round his opponents, scored, kicked off, dribbled round his opponents and scored again.

It would be good to see the contemporary evidence for this!

Does Colin Weir's Oxford University AFC history (1998) mention it?

What was it okay for this bounder to take the kick off, pass it to himself, and go on a mazy dribble, then bury it past some hapless custodian without anyone else touching it?

Roy Race sounds more plausible to me.

It was later said that Vidal became the only man to ever score a hat-trick without another player touching the ball (in those days, the team that scored would restart the game). But this has never been proven, and is, in all probability, a myth
