Beer Can't Post or Reply Privately

Keeping away from the Wetherspoon's pubs thread I thought I'd start the official NLM beer thread to talk about, erm.. beer.

Went down the shop earlier looking for a few bottles I'd not tried, Innis+Gunn's Original Oak Aged Beer. I don't know if anyone's come across it before but it has got to be the most interesting drink I've had, I mean the Scots are renowned for their whisky making but beer?

Anyway use this thread to talk about erm.. beer or just criticise the OP (me) Blush

Never mind lager-based drinks Tom - have a little dabble at Jaipur. And relax.

There are a few decent Scottish beers about

Deuchars Caledonian IPA and Harviestoun Schiehallion.

Other favourites of mine

Orval - My favourite Beer and always a good excuse to go over to Belgium to re-stock suppliesCool

Steinlager - Kiwi lager. A bit too far to go to replenish supplies on a regular basisUnsure

Anyone with any queries or need any help planning a trip to Fareham Town FC - give me a bell.

Any pre 1979-80 Fareham Town programmes wanted plus any further memorabilia/press etc.

Check out the clubs twitter page at www.twitter.com/farehamtownfc

Whitbreads Banana Bread Bitter is not too bad from a bottle in the supermarkets.

Tried plenty of Stewart's beers when I went up to Scotland recently (he didn't mind!) and a couple of nice Strathaven ones.

Hope this isn't too 'off-topic' but ... Hurrump Mad. In today's 'Oxford Times' is the news that the famous, historic and beautiful 'Nag's Head' pub in Abingdon is being closed by Greene King on Tuesday 4th January 2011.

For anyone who has ever visited Abingdon Town FC, The Nag's Head is the pub on its own island in the River Thames that is crossed by Abingdon bridge on the approach to Town's Culham Road ground (itself on a second larger island). Travelling towards the town centre, The Nag's Head is on the right and the football ground on the left, with the pub, football ground, meadows, river and view of the church spire making it the most beautiful entry to the town - I've spent many an hour supping in the garden before a match, as no doubt have generations of Town fans for over 140 years. Abingdon used to be famous for having the most pubs per head of population in Britain (admittedly a record that half the towns in Britain claim to hold!), but many pubs in the town are now closing.

Anyone wanting a last chance to visit The Nag's Head, Abingdon Town are at home to Wantage on 27th December, while Abingdon United (a 15min walk away) are at home to Thatcham on 3rd January.

New ticks 2012/13 season: Wootton Bassett Town, Woodcote/StokeRow, Godalming Town, Slimbridge, AFC Portchester, Hemel Hempstead Town, Watlington Town, Uffington United, Woking, Didcot Casuals(UTVL), Kingstonian, Cheltenham Town, Hertford College Oxford, Forest Hill, St.Hugh's College, Northway, Highmoor Ibis (Palmer Park), Harcourt Hill, Fairford Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Rayners Lane, Enfield1893, Stone Magnets, New College, Omonia(London), Wingate & Finchley, Chipping Norton Town, Barton Green, Chichester City, Harwell International, Heyford Athletic, Appleton Stars, Henley YMCA, Drayton, Headington Quarry rec, Westwood United, Radley, Pangbourne, Christchurch (Reading), Rugby Town, Kidlington Old Boys.

Hmm - Greene King - I think we should now class them in the same category as the old multibrew combines - buying up breweries and transferring production to Bury St Edmunds

Clubs - 119 (Grounds 123)

2012/13 - Fareham Town, Poole Town, US Portsmouth, Bournemouth Poppies, Sholing, Alton Town, Gillingham Town, Alderbury, Bashley, Alresford Town, Gosport Borough

I was always brought up to believe that alcohol was evil and it was the curse of the working classes. As for me there is nothing better than a nice long glass full of lemon juice. I'm sorry but to me one beer is the same as another. However, the variations of lemon juice are wonderful to behold.

Not too keen on Landlord myself, prefer Best Bitter. Not sure if anyone had it at the recent Wethers' beer festival but RCH Strawberry Line was delicious! Some other personal favourites of mine are Bob's Brewing Company - Chardonnayle and Brown Cow - Thriller in Vanilla.
