Johnny Love Can't Post or

Johnny Love (born 11 March 1937) played for Oxford United and Wellington Town. Love represented England twice at youth level. During his spell at Oxford, he played 279 league games. Between 1955 and 1957, Love was called up to the National Service in the West Indies. Love played on the left-wing during his years at Headington United and Oxford United. He in the last couple of season prior to entering the football league in 1962 classed by many as one of the best if not the best player outside of the football league.

I can remember John from his time at Wellington in 1963-4. I've had a quick look at some old programmes and he made 14 apps for the first team and 9 for the reserves but doesn't appear to have been with the club the following season. I don't know where he went to after that but would be interested to find out (no joy on Google I'm afraid).

The story around here was he never really took to the football league or even full time football and after his spell at Wellington he returned to the Oxford area and may just have played local football. He may well have given up playing at quite an early age. He was at one time on Wolves books, scored on his league debut but lost is place to Colin Harrington, another local player who was on Wolves books. His 258 games for Oxford / Headington was a post war record at the time. He played 25 games in the league scoring 5 goals. His bio's do not give any info on a caraer after Wellington
