sorry, takeover. Smile

Blackburn Rovers are to be taken over by an Indian group "which specialises in poultry farming and pharmaceuticals".

Quote
"Venky's, formerly known as Western Hatcheries Ltd, was established in 1976, mainly to produce chicks for the poultry markets of north India.

It is a VH Group company that has diversified into manufacturing nutritional health products for humans, pet food and other healthcare products."

The Blackburn Rovers takeover has been completed.

43 million for a Premier League club. Are they going cheaper these days?

Poultry does tend to go cheap, doesn't it?

Methinks these may come home to roost quite quickly as well Crazy

I think this this discussion has reached a chicken or the egg causality dilemma.

Back to yesterday's BBC article:

Blackburn have been bought by the Rao family in a 43m deal to become the first Indian-owned Premier League club.

Will the club be renamed Blackburn "Rao-vers"?

Re: [rainjar] Blackburn Rovers takeaway [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

From a BBC blog this week:

Quote
There was a moment on Saturday during Blackburn's crucial win over Swansea where the dissenters calling for the head of Rovers manager Steve Kean seemed to cross a line.

....

Their argument is that they are fully behind the team, not those in charge, but when Yakubu scored a fantastic first goal to give Rovers the lead, the cheers were tarnished by boos when the Nigerian ran over to celebrate with his manager on the touchline.

On the other hand, from the Guardian last month:

Quote
....

It was always difficult to see how Rovers, one of the Premier League's most local football clubs, belonged in the portfolio of a company whose central purpose, stated by the father of the chairman, Anuradha Desai, is "to see India in the No1 position on the poultry map of the world".

Foreseeing such concerns, the company provided a list of assurances to the Walker trustees, promising that once they owned Rovers they would "commit funds on a consistent and systematic basis to future transfer activity"; "support the existing management team and staff"; "develop and improve commercial performance across sponsorship [and] the club's kit deal"; "extend the Blackburn Rovers name and brand into India, the rest of south-east Asia and beyond" and "seek to enhance the fan experience".

Rovers [have] become a selling club over the summer, with ... senior staff Venky's inherited, including the chairman, John Williams and managing director, Tom Finn, gone. Blackburn have no shirt sponsor .....

....

A great deal of attention has focused on the role played by Jerome Anderson, one of English football's most experienced agents, who was centrally involved at the beginning. Anderson introduced Venky's as a buyer to the Walker trustees and Rovers board, and with the marketing company Kentaro, stayed on to provide advice after they completed their purchase.

That ended 20 years of ownership by Walker, then, after his death, by his estate, at a cost of 100m. The trustees ... were not willing to continue funding the club with 3m regular loans that Williams consistently pleaded out of them.

... the fact that Kean was Anderson's client gave the appearance that the vision was being shaped to some extent by Anderson, who rates Kean very highly.

....

Venky's have not replaced Williams yet, or Finn, who left in May after 15 years at the club. .... There is no chief executive, or chairman, ....

....

The impression of a club more financially squeezed than boosted by investment from wealthy foreign owners has been strengthened by the mortgaging of all money due from the Premier League, last season and this. The most recent mortgage, registered in December, charges all the TV, sponsorship and other money due to Rovers in 2011-12 to Barclays Bank for "securing all money due or to become due".

Club sources say this is not alarming, and gives Barclays only added security for an overdraft the club already had, but nevertheless the funds promised "on a consistent and systematic basis [for] future transfer activity" do not appear to have arrived in the summer.

...."

Will it all end in tears?

The vitriol directed at Steve Keane stems from the fact that he apparently stabbed Sam Allardyce in the back to get the job and he is convicted drink driver.

It seems that whatever he does he will never be accepted by many Rovers fans.

What on earth has the fact he's a convicted drink driver got to do with things?

With that sort of narrow attitude I hope Blackburn fans get the relegation they deserve!

Drink driving is socially unacceptable and quite rightly so, many Rovers fans thought he would have the decency to resign upon conviction but he apparently claimed his drink had been spiked although clearly the court didn't accept this claim.

Assuming the allegations regarding Sam Allardyce are true then I quite admire Rovers fans for their principals, they feel he has bought shame on the club.

Allardyce isn't squeaky clean either, and the allegations against him are actually football related

True enough although Blackburn fans are obviously entitled to voice their feelings on the matter.

I did think the abuse Steve Bruce got from Sunderland fans went a bit too far though although obviously there is always a fine line between what is and isn't acceptable.
