Wednesday 20th January 2010

Two exciting ties tonight.

Sunderland, one of the dark horses (rather than Black Cats!) for the trophy were the second P'ship scalp claimed by Preston as they had previously defeated last season's finalists, Manchester City. Remarkably Sunderland led for 109 of the 120 minutes only to have all 3 of their "penalties" saved (not missed).

Sunderland 2 (Ryan Noble 6, Craig Lynch 94); Preston 2 (Jamie Proctor 89, Neil Dougan 120)
After Extra Time, Preston won 3-0 on "penalties"
Preston are now at home to Brighton or Everton who meet tomorrow

The dominance of away sides in this round looked likely to continue at Millwall as Barnsley took a mid half lead only to sub' the scorer when their
'keeper was sent off after 33 minutes for handling outside the area. Despite this Barnsley increased their lead in first half added time.
Millwall fought back to draw level by mid way through the second half but could not score the winner in the last half hour.
Barnsley re-took the lead early in extra time only to be pegged back again before Barnsley went 4-3 up just before half-time in extra time.
Millwall made it 4-4 and then got the winner in the last minute with Barnsley then having a strong penalty claim waived away in stoppage time.
Tough on the ten men/boys of Barnsley.

Millwall 5 (Grant Ludford 49, John Marquis 66, Kiernan Hughes-Mason (2) 101 & 120, Danny Fitzsimons 111);
Barnsley 4 (Chase O'Neill 23, Michael Teiman 45+2, Danny Fearnehough 92, Tyrone Crapper 105)
After Extra Time

Millwall are the only level three side in to the last sixteen so far (Brighton could join them) and they now travel to Aston Villa

Millwall? Eh????

Just got back in from The Den!

Millwall won 5-4, after extra time! No penalty shoot out needed, as Millwall scored the winner in the last minute of stoppage time.

Barnsley went down to ten men, around ten minutes before the break, when one up, after their keeper was sent off. They had a second keeper on te bench.
