Most goals scored by a single player in a qualifying campaign?

Didn't David Healy set a goalscoring record in the last Euro qualifying groups?

Re: [Richard Rundle] Goalscoring [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

You are quite correct Richard - and apologies to ciderjon if this is what you were referring to.

I was thinking of a separate record completely - one which will remain on the record books forever whereas Healy's may be overtaken at some stage though it will take some doing for an individual to beat his 13 goals in Euro 2008 qualifying.

It was Mr Healy I meant, I just couldn't remember his name at the time!

But he's from Nothern Ireland (we remember him well as he scored on us too). Does "Irish" include Nothern Ireland?

Re: [buncranaboy] Goalscoring [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Pat Jennings did a lot of games for Northern Ireland, and I think he once may have hold the world record for games played.

Edit: On the other hand, that's not what your looking for, as he was not exactly known for massive goal scoring.

Re: [Lars] Goalscoring [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Your mention of Pat Jennings rang a bell. Did he ever take a penalty? Was he the first goalkeeper to score in a major international??

In answer to your previous question, where I come from we look at the whole island of Ireland as Irish, but I know some people hold contrary views (which I don't understand) but equally I don't want to turn this thread ( or any other) away from sports.

Re: [ciderjon] Goalscoring [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I think the only goal Pat Jennings ever scored in major football was in the 1967 Charity Shield, and that was with a kick from hand rather than a penalty. But he never scored for Northern Ireland, so it can't be that.

No, nothing to do with Pat Jennings though whichever side of the border you come from, you'd count this fellah as Irish...............
