Am deeply saddened by this news today. A legend of nonl eague footbal is no longer with us and the world will be a lesser place without him. I, for one, will never forget the name Tony Kempster. RIP Tony

I never met Tony, but still I feel deeply saddened by his passing, which just goes to show how much his site meant to me and so many others. R.I.P. Tony.

Very sad news indeed. Thoughts with his family and friends. I do hope the legend can live on through the site. The name Kempster is a legacy for all of non-league football.

I'm completely devastated by Tony's passing, even though it's been expected and I thought I was prepared for it. My heartfelt wishes are extended to Tony's nearest and dearest in this time of sadness. In a way, I'm kind of glad that Tony's sufferings have been ended, his travails with that illness I'd not wish upon my worst enemy... but there's a Tony-shaped hole forever chipped out of my soul and that will never be filled. I do not think that Tony would have wished for his normally merry coterie here on the Message board to mope about over his passing for too long, so I must manfully raise myself up by my bootstraps and soldier on, treasuring his memory, anecdotes and the like and eventually remember knowing this great man with joy. I hope everyone else who has ever beentouched by Tony's generosity, acumen, common sense, wit and wisdom - particularly in these hallowed pages - will find their own catharsis in similar vein. Goodnight Tony, sleep the sleep of the just my friend.
I APOLOGISE UNRESERVEDLY TO EACH AND EVERY PERSON ON THIS FORUM WHO HAS FELT LET-DOWN BY MY INIMICABLE AND DEPLORABLE BEHAVIOUR OF OCTOBER 28th. 2009. ESPECIALLY TO BRIAN, WHO IS A MARVELLOUS GENTLEMAN AND IS THE LAST PERSON HERE WHO SHOULD HAVE TO PUT UP WITH SUCH UNDESERVED PERSONAL CHARACTER-ASSASSINATION. LET IT BE KNOWN THAT A PRIVATE PERSONAL APOLOGY WAS SENT, BUT WAS SEEN INSUFFICIENT. FAIR ENOUGH.

Very sad news. Although I only ever communicated with Tony by email, it felt like he was a friend. He was very supportive a few years ago when I was involved with the Non League On The Net website. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.

Spoke to Tony a few times over the years when he was wanting to check (for example) the forename of a Morecambe Reserves player in a midweek local cup tie up at Kendal or wherever... the conversation usually went something like: "Can I just check, is that JAMIE Close, the same one who played for the first team once three years ago against Blackpool Mechanics in the first round of the Lancashire Junior Cup?" .... which would prompt a bit of leafing through old files before we could confirm! Unbelievable dedication to the cause of footy statistics and his meticulous work will be sorely missed. An absolute legend throughout the country - thoughts from so many, many Kempster fans are with his family. RIP Tony.

R.I.P Tony. This website has helped me on the road to recovery after various illnesses as I have missed the Travelling and meeting various people from all over Great Britain so cannot wait for my next fix after regular league and Non- League Saturday games since 1954/5 season. Tony has done excellent work on this website and I am sorry I did not get the chance to meet him. John Hopkins (Hoppy).
